Re: Engine lock up.

Finally found out the cause for the lock up. Noticed that the crank would lock slightly at a certain position when turned by hand so stripped the whole thing down. About a third of the alternator side main bearing cage was missing! Can only assume it broke off and was lying dormant at the bottom of ...

Ebay speedo drive

I'm assuming these have been made using a 3D Printer.

Just wondering if anyone on here has tried one.

Re: Engine lock up.

Ok thanks for that.

The guy i bought the wrong piston from has a 66.4mm piston available, though he says it's 'oversize' but if i bought it i wouldn't know if the rings were right for the Nikasil. [the seller is no help whatsoever].

Re: Engine lock up.

Ok, so the Wossner turns up and is smaller in diameter than my original piston at 65.93mm. I assumed this was the standard size so now i'm guessing i need the next size they list, which is 66.40mm? [which i saw listed as oversize]. My piston measures at 66.30. The piston also looks different around ...

Re: Engine lock up.

I was wondering if the wossner pistons were any good...40 quid cheaper than a Honda one i believe.

Re: Engine lock up.

Ok, thanks for the advice.

There is no way i'll be using that piston again so just one final question..... where would you recommend i buy a replacement along with gaskets etc?
I usually use leisure trail for cables and the like.

Re: Engine lock up.

Cylinder head is peppered but not too bad. Plug is fine and nothing missing from the reed block. This is the first time the top end has been off so i'm wondering if this is 'old' damage as the bike ran fine afterwards. Can't say i can see any pick up damage that would suggest a seizure or find any c...

Engine lock up.

Flipped it when going up a boggy bank....afterwards kickstart was locked solid but engine seemed to turn a bit in gear pushing back and forth....strange! Assumed a seizure so poured some oil down into the bore. After about ten minutes it freed up, started and i managed to ride the 12 miles back to t...

Re: Poor starting / running.

Ok, found a guy near me with a F-reg CRM who is going to let me try his carb. This will potentially save me a bit time [which I don't have at the minute] and take a bit of the guess work away. Am I right in assuming his carb is the same as mine?

Re: Poor starting / running.

Thanks for the links. I reckon I've got enough stuff lying around the garage to make that homemade leak tester in the third link.

Re: Poor starting / running.

Well. the gearbox level is ok. Question for knackered; if I whip the generator off do you think there might be any leaking evidence around the seal or should I be looking at the carb again? I've had the carb off twice and blown through every airway with an airline. About replacing the pilot jet; how...

Re: Poor starting / running.

Understand the leak down test but don't have the gear to do it, have a compression tester though.
I'll check the box oil tomorrow.
Cheers.
