Re: Deep gouges in fork uppers - dangerous?
Just had a look with a straight edge, deepest one looks more like 1mm. Plus it's on the thickest section which looking again looks fairly thick, probably 4mm at least. Panic over I'd say, I think they look worse now that I've stripped the paint off, as I can remember only seeing a couple of scrapes ...

Re: Deep gouges in fork uppers - dangerous?
Hmm, I'll try to measure them accurately, doesn't sound a lot, but I doubt the wall thickness is a lot overall, maybe 2.5mm? I'm guessing though. I've put an ad in wanted area in case anyone has some spare uppers that are in better condition that mine. Had a quick look on ebay for CR forks but not l...

Deep gouges in fork uppers - dangerous?
Since stripping the paint off of the uppers from my Mk2 forks I have started to prep then for paint, but on closer inspection I'm wondering if I should maybe look for some better condition uppers, or maybe some CR forks. I've got no problem doing the prep work and repainting them (although I'd have ...

Re: And so it begins.......... Mk2 rebuild
tidy bit of engineering hallsy ,wish i still had access to the work lathe and miller I can't take credit for that unfortnately, a workmate of mine offered to make one as he didn't have much on!! It is very handy having machining equipment around, unfortunately I don't get to use it much anymore (no...

Re: And so it begins.......... Mk2 rebuild
Finally got my heavy duty paint stripper through on Friday, so tried some on my fork uppers. It worked well, but unfortunately the uppers are in quite a sorry state underneath. A few scuffs & scrapes, uneven shade of anodising, so unfortunately I will have to paint them again. Probably go with the s...

Re: Close match for Honda gold??
Jeram - must admit I was thinking of using an engine paint with a satin finish, but did wonder about durability. Not sure how normal 2K would stand up to heat, but I painted a rocker cover years ago with 1k base and 2k lacquer, that was fine. Suppose I could get a matched base coat and then overcoat...

Re: resistance of bulb
I don't have a lamp in front of me to measure, but should be able to work it out with basic forumlae. P = IV, so I = P/V = 21/12 = 1.75A for 21W filament. and 5/12 = 0.417A for 5W filament. Then, V = IR, so R = V/I = 12/1.75 = 6.86 ohm for 21W filament and 12/0.417 = 28.78 ohm for 5W filament. Hope ...

Close match for Honda gold??
Does anyone know the RAL code for the gold colour Honda used on the clutch cover? If not has anyone found an engine paint that's a close match? Mine is flaky so I'll probably end up repainting it.

Re: And so it begins.......... Mk2 rebuild
:OMG You must have bought everything from LT ;) Well, I don't think my rebuild will be anywhere near as extensive or polished as yours, but I reckon I will spend around £400 on mechanicals by the time I've finished and I paid £350 for the bike (or should that be bits!!??). I'm logging what I spend. ...

Re: And so it begins.......... Mk2 rebuild
Well, hopefully now I will only have to spend out money on the engine, apart from tidying little bits here & there. If I decide to start uprating bits, or blinging the bike up then that will come later once it has been rebuilt to a (hopefully) reasonable standard. Nack - I'm guessing it's advisable ...

Re: And so it begins.......... Mk2 rebuild
Trying too!! Trying to keep it paced otherwise I'll spend too much too quickly (trying to keep overall spending from getting excessive!). I did wonder about the bushes, but I must admit I have not looked at them since I stripped them as I still need to thoroughly clean the lowers & internals. Should...

Re: And so it begins.......... Mk2 rebuild
Dropped the frame and subframe off at the powder coaters yesterday and I had a call from him this afternoon to say it was ready to collect  Phone pic - sorry! http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6175/6150621787_ef654cdfb2_b.jpg 2011-09-15 17.23.07 by Hallsy01 , on Flickr I'm now in two minds about t...

Re: And so it begins.......... Mk2 rebuild
Thanks BoR :) So, still waiting on bits, namely some decent paint stripper (seems that due to new EU regs Nitromors Automotive (was stronger than normal one) is not available  ) and a few bits from David Silver - Swingarm bolt & nut, dust caps and a couple of bushes. So nothing too exciting go...

Re: Frame powder coating
Just been up to see the powder coater this arvo, seems like a nice guy. Spoke about the openings in the top part of the frame so he is going to bung those up, head bearing housings will be taped up. After seeing the frame he said it would be around £60-70 :D I think initially he was concerned whethe...
