Re: Gaskets

Always worth checking someone like David Silver for prices (can get all prices online if you have the part number) as it is well known that Leisure Trail are far from cheap for some parts. Not sure how they work out on the gaskets, but I priced a full gasket set and little end bearing & piston pin c...

Re: the back gear drive shaft

I have a mk1 engine that I have stripped for parts, gearbox looks to be in good condition, but shipping to Thailand would likely be too expensive to make it worthwhile?

Re: mk1 & mk2 frame differences?

Thanks Nack. That is good then, as that is what I bought it as!! So it seems that at some point someone has put a mk1 engine and electrics in it. Certainly the loom is mk1 anyway as it has the separate cdi & pv units. And as the FAQ suggests, with an engine number of 10xxxxx it would be a mk1 engine...

Re: mk1 & mk2 frame differences?

Cheers Nack - maybe it was a late registered mk1 or there was a mix up when it got imported. I had always assumed it was a mk2 as that was what it was sold as, and was registered in 1991. This is the frame I had - https://farm7.staticflickr.com/6175/6150621787_ef654cdfb2_b.jpg 2011-09-15 17.23.07 by...

mk1 & mk2 frame differences?

Can anyone tell me the obvious differences between the mk1 & mk2 CRM frames? Any pictures maybe? I bought my CRM as a mk2 and it was a 1991 bike according to V5. However, I have recently found that it had a mk1 wiring loom & CDI/PV controller. I have sold the frame with V5 so I don't have the frame ...

Re: And so it begins.......... Mk2 rebuild

Just a case of day to day stuff getting in the way, and a bit of 'out of sight, out of mind' with most of it stuffed away in the garage.

Didn't realise it was a competition anyway, lol!!

Going to have a think about it over the weekend.

Re: And so it begins.......... Mk2 rebuild

Well, been a very long time!! Had been busy with other projects, recently found the enthusiasm to strip down the bottom end. Cases cleaned up, crank looks good, cases look clean internally - just need to fit new bearings now and reassemble. Trouble is, it's getting in the way now and I've lost my wa...

This was something I had considered doing for my tired plastics also, so would love to see some pics of how it turned out.

Re: And so it begins.......... Mk2 rebuild

Hallsy i've got a question for you. Have you got some technical drawing of this part because i bought wheels of xr 400 without rear wheel bearing retainer. Or i need a do new one. Hi Maciej, sorry I missed this. I don't have any technical drawings I'm afraid, but I could draw you one up if that wou...

Re: And so it begins.......... Mk2 rebuild

I'm still here :P Been a while, not really done much with the project since tail end of last year, been tied up with other projects and also had a couple more hiccups along the way. When I went to fit the swingarm to the frame I discovered it was twisted. I could twist it enough to get the main pivo...

Re: And so it begins.......... Mk2 rebuild

Tonight was quiet so I decided to try to clean up the shock a little, which then lead me to stripping it down!! I know I'd been advised to leave it to suspension experts, but I had to have a look!! I'd already disconnected the resorvoir as there was no nitrogen in it, and it was leaking oil from the...

Re: And so it begins.......... Mk2 rebuild

Yep, looking again at the fork bushes I'd say they look totally fine, no obvious signs of wear on the friction surfaces, but that's my fault for ordering new (wrong!) ones without having a proper look. Scuffed uppers have been filled and one of them pretty much prepped, will hopefully get these fini...

Re: And so it begins.......... Mk2 rebuild

Moving on :) . Looks like the fork bushes need to be replaced. Bare copper - not so good. Got the Mk3 bushes through today from Wemoto, not 100% that they are both right, looks like one might be a little larger than Mk2, but I'll find out tomorrow when I remove the old ones and measure them. One th...
