Re: Surging idle (video) (1992 MK2)
A final reply to say that I blocked off the inlet and put a 50 pilot jet in.
It now idles great with half an air screw out rather than all the way in! My dad reckons that because the carb hasn't seen a lot of use that it will clean up in time as I use it. I'm really excited to have this bike ...

Re: Surging idle (video) (1992 MK2)
Brass oil inlet? Okay so I went out to the bike, unscrewed the cover and took the following picture:

So as you can see, we just left the original tubes all connected. It seems we didn't think it through completely and might explain the lean condition.

Re: Surging idle (video) (1992 MK2)
Guys! I followed your advice and looked to the carb. I realised I didn't have to take it all the way out to access the jets - I just loosened the two clips off, took the needle out and could rotate the carb to get access to the bottom.
The carb was clean but I took the pilot just out anyway. There ...

Re: Surging idle (video) (1992 MK2)
It doesn't appear to be throttle cable related. I took the bike out again today for 4 miles to warm it up thoroughly. It idles better when warm (like most 2 strokes I've had), but won't sustain an idle for very long.
Aside from that, it's working great! It suggest to me that the carb pilot jet is ...

Re: Surging idle (video) (1992 MK2)
Float height? That's interesting. We didn't adjust anything in the carb - we just put it back how it was. I'll never know if it was running 100% before the rebuild though tbh.gregorious77 wrote:where are you located in UK?

Re: Surging idle (video) (1992 MK2)
Hopefully you did the crank seals?
My father did replace the seals - he ordered everything, a kit I think, from Leisure Trail.
So I followed your advice, no obvious perishing from the rubber boot. However the air screw was all the way out!
So I closed it in quite a bit and then went for a ride ...

Surging idle (video) (1992 MK2)
Hello,
My father and I have succeeded in putting my CRM250 1992 Mk2 back together after a lower and upper engine rebuild.
It's got a surging idle, which it had before the rebuild. It's no better but seems okay with the idle turned up a bit:

MK2 exhaust gasket query
Hello,
Today my father and I have put together my MK2 after a rebuild and it started first kick!
Really please but when we were putting it together, we didn't have an exhaust gasket for the downpipe/exhaust flange area.
I'm going to check for a leak when I take it out in daylight. IF I can't see ...

Hi guys,
It's going well. My dad has got the case split and says the following:

Re: CRM250 MK2 seizure - not top end - questions
We're making progress.
Clutch removed - no issues found.
My father wants to check the stator in details but doesn't have a flywheel puller that fits.
Can anyone recommend one that will fit? Maybe one that can be ordered from Amazon or Ebay?

CRM250 MK2 seizure - not top end - questions
Hi guys,
I got my seized MK2 engine to Kent okay and took it it apart with my dad. I'm 34, he's 62! Just some background, it seized solid at 70mph in January and this is the first opportunity I've had to work on it.

Re: MK2 removing engine from frame - odd size washer
It's out! Taking it to my father's place in Kent on Saturday for damage assessment. If it's all fixable then he'll do the work for me.

Re: MK2 removing engine from frame - odd size washer
Thanks for the advice guys! Managed to get the bolt out of the swingarm. Had to buy a long thick screwdriver from Halfords (£5!) and knocked it through. It came out really easily. When I put the bike back together I will be sure to grease it so it doesn't ever seize in place.
Just got to get it out ...

Re: MK2 removing engine from frame - odd size washer
Thanks guys. I will leave it in place unless it turns out its removal is vital to get it out of the frame.
Just trying to get the swingarm bolt out now. It moves fine but don't have any kind of drift punch long enough to push it out - will go an look in Halfords today.
