Re: Exhaust Packing How Much

I'm not sure about the wire wool. I'm sure it would be fine, but I've always used the packing similar to the first link. You could get a non branded packing cheaper than the FMF packing. It might be worth pulling the exhaust can apart before you order the wading. Some cans, can only reassemble with ...

Re: Clutch Plates

Just thought I would quickly update this. I fitted the new clutch kit with my old springs. This has now solved the issue of the clutch sticking on when left for prolonged periods of time.

The bike is running like a dream now, so hopefully I will have a fairly trouble free year.

Re: Gaskets

I used Athena Gaskets on my rebuild, I haven't had any problems with them. If I was rebuilding again, I might be tempted to use a genuine head gasket. I think some manufacture use Athena to make there genuine gaskets. Here is the link. If I remember correctly the postage is fairly expensive from Ita...

Re: Knocking and temp light

If the bike wasn't moving, its not that surprising the temp light came on after 15mins.. There are no fans on the radiators, and you need air flow through the radiators to regulate temperature. As for the knocking, there are a number of things it could be. If this is your 1st 2T, it maybe you are ju...

Re: Coolant where it shouldn't be

I've measured the bearing on the clutch side. Its 17x47x12, in the FAQ its says, 17x37x12, I assume this is a typo. Ive taken the bearing out to have a look. When it is fitted to the shaft and the nut fully tighten down with the washer in place, the bearing measures about 1.2mm too narrow. This is a...

Re: Coolant where it shouldn't be

Now I have had a chance to think about this, although what I have written above is true, it can't have been the washer that has allowed the shaft to rub on the clutch cover. The bearing on that side retains the shaft. So even it loose the shaft could only move towards the magneto. The bearing on tha...

Re: Coolant where it shouldn't be

A quick update on this. The washer on the balance shaft was put in the wrong way around. This meant the shaft could float about and has rubbed on the clutch cover. This, I assume is why the gear oil has been coming out grey and why the clutch bearing is shot.

Re: Coolant where it shouldn't be

This differently comes out under the swing arm. It's routed in well so looks like it should go there. I think I'm going to move it anyway. I'm going to strip out the rest of the parts tomorrow, so I can see what's going on with the balance shaft.

Re: Coolant where it shouldn't be

The breather pipe exits under the swing arm by the dog bones. I suppose it is possible to have had some water sucked up that way. I'll move the breather to be on the safe side.

Re: Coolant where it shouldn't be

It was definitely coolant, it was pink. I'm going to change the water pump seal just to be sure, but is that the only way water can get into the gearbox? I've also noticed the balance shaft is loose. I replaced the bearing where replaced about 18 months ago, but the whole shaft can be moved in and o...

Re: Coolant where it shouldn't be

It may have gotten in there when I removed the clutch cover, but the water pump is the opposite end of the cover and the cover came away easily. The oil was very grey, but I put the wrong oil in 2 changers back, which made the clutch slip, so I put it down to that. I take it the only way coolant can...

Re: Coolant where it shouldn't be

No, I don't think so. The coolant that was on the release shaft was clean. Maybe some leaked in there when I took the clutch cover off, but I can't see how it got inside that tube, as such. Is there any water ways that run around that area? I can't think of any.

Coolant where it shouldn't be

I started changing the clutch today. When removing the plates, I noticed the clutch basket has a bit of a wobble. I assume this needs a new bearing? I haven't removed it yet. Anyway, I pulled the release shaft out(I think that's what you would call it) from the centre of the basket. When I removed t...

Re: Clutch Plates

a laverda, wow. you should be use to having a bike in bit then if it was anything like my one. I had a laverda 650 sport Kevlar and most of the time something wrong with it. I haven't had the Laverda very long, so we will have to see. Its a very late 750 Formula. It has only done 4k miles. I hoping...

Re: Clutch Plates

I rebuilt the engine a year ago, so gearbox is clean. The clutch basket, although not new was serviceable with a little bit of cleaning up. I've ordered the kit now. So I'll do a comparison between the heavy duty spring, the original springs and a spare set I have laying around, to see which gives t...
