Say there is a crack in the head gasket between the cooling channel in the barrel and the combustion chamber. Under pressure, the water makes it way into the combustion chamber, past the piston and into the gearbox itself.

Thats how.

Thing is Bargos.......

Re: Loss of top end power + temp warning light

My 1997 AR has recently lost it's power at higher revs (It almost feels choked up) and the temp. warning light comes on when I rev it. It is not losing any water

C'mon guys.....the info you need is all there.

How would water get in the gearbox oil even if the head gasket had failed?

but when i blew out carb after stripping it i thought some thing flew out

Hi Pirelli,
The part you've lost is a small silver piece of tube which sits between the emulsion tube and the carb body. ie at the opposite end of the main jet.
It tends to get lightly stuck in the body when you remove the ...

Ahh.......I see.
The power valve usually sits among a fair amount of carbon encrustment so, even when worn, doesn't usually rattle.
If the engine has done a lot of miles, it could be the little end or the big end which is causing the noise.
When the engine is started from cold, it has oil residue ...

Hi mikey,
I suspect the sounds you are hearing may be quite normal for a two stroke engine, especially one that is not brand new.
Your engine could have many thousands of miles in it yet.
Not too sure how you have checked the piston ring \"blow Back\" :o as you call it.
Excessive breathing from the ...

Trail riding in the Yorkshire Dales.

Guys,
Just got back from a second outing in the Dales with http://www.yorkshiredalestrailrides.co.uk

Fantastic stuff with lots of different types or terrain.
A full 8 hours riding covering around 80 to 100 off road miles with fuel stops and a cafe lunch all incorporated.

You should take a trip ...

Admin's right, too much oil is as bad as not enough. The fuel mixture will run weak with oil in the tank as well as from the pump.

No problem Ed. It is a little tricky.
It was suggested by Ugly that using extra oil in the fuel will weaken the fuel/air mixture because the oil is taking the place of petrol in the jets.
This is true, but not when the extra oil is via autolube.
Because the autolube oil doesn't pass through the fuel ...

Bargos, You're not making sense.
The engine will be fine on premix and autolube oil at the same time. It is common practice when priming oil pumps both in the motorcycle and the outboard motor industry.
The engine will be fine, if a little smokey and a little lumpier on tickover.
Running with an ...

Hi Jue,
Was the oil you found in the crankcase the same as what was in the gearbox or was it the same as what was in the 2 stroke tank :?:
If it was light brown in colour, it is likely it is from the gearbox. Especially likely if your 2 stroke oil was red :!:
Over filling the gearbox will not ...

It really does still sound like carb trouble. Have you stripped the carb and set everything as per manual. Have you got a CRM manual?

A machinist would nip a suitable counterweight between the work piece and the appropriate chuck jaw to provide the balance he requires.
