Hi I'd second the premix option for first run, I've just restored my mk2 not an engine rebuild but I did strip and clean most things so the oil injection had been drained. I think I'd just use the manufacturers recommended mix for the make of oil you are using. There is a simple calculator here http...

Final post on this matter - problem solved
For anyone who suffers this prob, symptom lights go dim and flicker. It turned out to be a bad connection on the ignition capacitor, thats the round thing behind the headlight with just two wires going to it. One red and one green. I unplugged it, cleaned the contacts up and everything is bright and...

I've been round the local bike shops in the Stoke on Trent area this afternoon, its been a fruitless trip. DK were the best but wanted £45 +VAT for a used reg/rect. I can't quite belive that one guy who actually began to make out I didn't know what I was talking about did try his best to sell me a r...

Yep I did that yesterday evening as part of the tests to see what had happened. The engine runs fine and all the electrics work perfectly on a small 12v motorcycle battery plugged in under the tank in place of the wire from the reg/rect unit. It was quite late in the evening so I didn't really want ...

Yeah thats what worries me now, the bike was still running after the reg failed much as I can't understand that one little bit. It just bugs me where the CDI was obtaining electricity from to operate, I have a reasonable grasp of electrical systems but this goes against certain principals. Unless th...

Voltage reg seems to have died now
Anyone got any info on this. While I've been working on the poor running of my CRM things seem to have taken a further turn for the worse. I'd just refitted the carb after stripping and cleaning it again still searching for a reason why my CRM isn't running well. I know this isn't connected its just...

Yeah I did have the cap off and it moves in a robotic fashion, opens when you open the throttle and closes when the RPM's fall back down. We just found something else that looks important tho, looking closely at the Leisure Trail manual it appears that my engine could well be a Mk3 engine, its certa...

I've emailed Leisure Trail earlier to ask just that, will prob give them a call tomorra and order all the jets. For what it will cost its got to be worth doing everything, inc a new needle and bowl seal. I'm beginning the get excited about it again, the rebuild I did over the early part of winter go...

Hi I already been burned twice with crud from the tank, I've now cleaned it and also installed an inline filter. Good info tho, kinda points to a needle issue it will still be on the pilot when its running well. Then the bad bit is through the needle area then when its up on the powerband it would b...

Oil is clear but now have MASSIVE flat spot !!!
Hi Firstly major thanks to Bargos, he was so totally clued up and gave me a lot of time. I can't thank you enough. I had a major oiling up prob and its now cleared thanks to getting a half decent ride. All Carb settings were set to manual standard specs and my bike starts really easily and ticks ove...

Hi I'm thinking its more likely going to be the clutch side seal too. Not that bad and at least its only a few quid. I've not stripped it again yet to check the oil colour, I suspect its gear oil tho too. The oil thats ending up on the plug doesn't look red but I know thats no cast iron guarantee th...

Hi Thanks for that info, I was thinking along similar lines, it won't damage the autolube pump then by running it dry? Also there is a possibility that the gearbox could be over filled, do you think this could cause a similar issue. I filled it with what seemed to be the correct amount as listed in ...

Oil in the crankcase - Where from ?
Hi I'm more than a little concerned about this one, my bike has been a fairly long term restoration project and I've not really done much with it since a few weeks before Christmas. When I first bought the bike it was a non runner, I found the crankcase to be full of oil and the oil tank was empty, ...
