i had same problem inc breaking clutch basket, it was over a year ago, but if i remember rightly i got it off by securing the other side, i think it was the magnito or whatever you call the charger, this is a lot more solid and easier to get a grip of. i remember it was a real B******s of a job thou...

also if the bike has been standing for a while with unleaded the petrol, this forms a varish on needles etc, so might start then conk out, had this with old DR400s, would never have found it if someone hadn`t suggested this. remeady was to soak carb in something, i think it was white spirt but could...

if its the CDI you will probably be better off also changing the reg/rec, both are very expensive so contact dave silver and although it take three weeks you save 25% (£120ish). i know i`ve been there!

yea sounds very like powervalve, if its not stuck it could be the CDI.

both would do it, but the africa twin is larger and as its says a twin, so better and smoother. also has a bit of a fairing which helps. XR600, has a bit of a small single disc, so with a lot of luggage could take a bit more stopping. depends what type of riding you do, and how far your going. and y...

try taking the cables off the powervalve and moving it by hand with the engine off, it should move smoothly, but it can gum up after a while especially with fully sinthetic oil. not much of a problem if this is it.

i replaced the reg/rec at the same time, as having just spent £300 on a CDI and being told it can be damaged by a bad reg thought it better to change it, i am not loaded just couldn`t afford 2 cdi`s. if you have 2 buy new, go to dave silver spares, the 3-4 week wait is rewarded by 25% discount worth...

na, we went the weekend just passed, not that muddy where we were, mostly rocky. saw a few other peps, but not many. thousands of horses and landrovers, on a pony roundup. also people on bikes and qauds on same. you didn`t miss anything there. one track was busier than the M25.

had a really good weekend out laning in the minehaed area, (on the XR400 as i still havent put the CRM back togather) we were guided by alan from cotswold trialrides, ad in TBM. An excellent area, bit like wales, lots of hills and rocky climbs. used a pucker trials tyre which i had some reservations...
