Re: First ever rebuild!

I have had a look and tool's like that, for now are well out of my price range. I can't even afford my new gaskets and bearings at the moment. I will give the heating/cooling method a go and let you all know how I get on. Wish me luck!

Re: First ever rebuild!

Good point. I haven't looked properly at the bearings yet but I believe that I remember seeing some that sit completely flush with the cases. As in you can't get anything behind them to drive the bearing out. Does this make sense? If so what kind of a problem does this cause?

Re: First ever rebuild!

Won't that cost a lot in gas canisters though if I'm heating every bearing for removal? Could I not just oven bake for 30 minutes or so?

Re: First ever rebuild!

I haven't priced that up what-so-ever. I have figured that even if I ruin this job then I will be in no worse of a situation than I was before, plus I need to learn! I have already, as per the rebuild manual that is posted on this forum (somewhere) tried to hammer the crank out. I was very tentative...

First ever rebuild!

Hi guy's, It's been a while since my last post. I think when I left you guy's I was trying to figure out what I needed to do with my bike and how to do it. Since my last post I have stripped down the motor and am now waiting for funds to buy myself a whole set of gaskets and bearings. I have run int...

Re: Can't start my CRM.

So, I think I'm just going to go with the option of rebuilding the top end. That way at least I know exactly where I am with the maintenance of the bike. I have a couple of questions though. 1) What exactly is required to rebuild the top end and how much time should I expect it to take? 2) Can I do ...

Re: Can't start my CRM.

I'm not sure, is the p/valve where the exhaust fastens on to?

I haven't checked the exhaust but I'm presuming that it's just as mucky. I didn't think that would effect anything?

Re: Can't start my CRM.

Also, there is a bit of carbon build up on the spark plug, it was brand new no more than 10 miles ago. Could the potential problem's that you have listed have that sort of effect on the plug or do you think I would be looking at something else as well?

Re: Can't start my CRM.

I don't know how many hours since the rebore, I haven't had it done since I took over ownership about 8 weeks ago. I can't quite reach to the top of the bore with my fingers but can't feel any ridges or lips. I know that the piston was brand new last November. How do you identify if the ring's are g...

Re: Can't start my CRM.

So guy's, an update. I have removed the head and piston, here are some images. I don't know what I'm looking for, however I'm pretty sure the piston shouldn't be the colour that it is? I am taking it to be inspected by a motorcycle mechanic but any advice I can get here would be very welcome. Thanks...

Re: Can't start my CRM.

I'm sure I have enough persistence to get them out, just haven't wanted to because I have no replacements. Allan key bolts sound like a good idea, I will PM you.

I will update at the weekend when I get a chance to get my spanners out.

Re: Can't start my CRM.

I have drained the carb by turning it upside down, it was the only way I could do it as 3 of the 4 screws holding the bowl in place are knackered and I can't get them out. I haven't tried replacing the fuel, although it was brand new fuel from a petrol station that it was running on when the problem...

Re: Can't start my CRM.

This weekend I will get the top end off and have a look then report back with my finding's. I think I'm off the road until the new year though with the run up to Christmas though!

Re: Can't start my CRM.

I understand, I haven't done this job before so I'm a little apprehensive about doing it. I have had the bike for about 8-10 weeks now and all I have done in the way or servicing is oil changes, plugs and filter cleans. I don't know when the piston and bore were last serviced, I would imagine over 6...
