Hi, Dont take the risk! A clutch basket is expensive to replace when all you need is two strips of metal plate with two holes in each to hold the basket. from what I can recall it cost me about 60 quid for the basket. I picked up some pre-drilled steel plate from somewhere that worked a treat. Simpl...

Hi,

I know im a slow mechanic but even I would be pushed to stretch things out to 3 years!!

Thanks for the interest though - I fixed it with some large strips of plastic and plenty of adhesive - she is water-tight now :-)

All I need to do is start using the thing again!

Yo,

The balance shaft can be checked for wear - this has been covered elsewhere on the site. As for anything else im not too sure...your best place to start is to search the site and see what anyone else has come up with...

Kinney, >How would water get in the gearbox oil even if the head gasket had >failed? Say there is a crack in the head gasket between the cooling channel in the barrel and the combustion chamber. Under pressure, the water makes it way into the combustion chamber, past the piston and into the gearbox ...

Hi, This suggests that water has mixed with your engine oil, possible from the cylinder head gasket which could tie in with your problem. Having just re-read your original post you say that the engine 'doesnt appear to be getting too hot'. Am I missing something here or does the fact that your warni...

Colins,

Well, take a look and see what you can find. Theres a reason that your bike isnt running properly and it will leave clues to help you find out.

Colins,

A few questions...

What sort of state was the plug in when you replaced it?

Have you changed the engine oil lately? What kind of state was it in?

Take out the engine oil filler and look at the underside - is there any residue?

Hi, Its a process of elimination - you need to be satisfied that you are getting a good clean spark first and take it from there. To know for sure it is best to remove the plug, the cap and then cut the last 10mm or so off the HT lead (as long as there is plety left so it isnt left short). Then get ...
