Re: Low top speed
Compression should be around 170psi for a fresh engine. I put new rings in mine when it was showing 125psi but it still had good power. You say you removed the inner part of the expansion chamber? that means you have changed its volume and shape so effectively changed the characteristics of the engi...

Re: main bearing problems.
My AR bearings are 72mm OD. I know I have already sent you info so hopefully you are getting it sorted. Could your builder be looking at the CR rather than CRM? a lot of people have not even heard of the CRM and they are completely different bikes. CR is 68.00x28.00x18.00

Re: Low top speed
Could be a number of things really. Get it on a Dyno for starters to see if the jetting is all good. If it was lean at the top end revs I am sure it would have seized by now if you are WOT trying to go faster. It is my understanding a std CRM will do around 100mph (160kph). Maybe its rich at the top...

It is quiet in here. Spares are getting harder to come by for NOS. a lot is no longer available. Means a few more breakers are popping up though.
Re: no spark
These are renowned for the Reg/Rec dying so would be looking at that first. Mine actually died on the lanes and the first I knew was my GPS saying it was no longer charging followed by a misfire and finally nothing. £90 to see you right if it is that.

Re: Oils
I used ATF for some time but my balancer shaft bearing went all whiney (as they do) I am putting it down to the ATF and too many miles between changes (600 in that case). I no longer use ATF as its just not worth the risk. Oil is cheap enough when you are only using 600-700ml every couple of rides.

Re: Shifting issues
the spring loaded flappy bits in the drum? I lost the bush in mine and it only just hooked up the gears. Then I replaced it but put the spring loaded bits in the wrong way which meant it didn't shift at all. Now its all good except coming down the box sometimes skips past 2nd and into neutral which ...
