Not this time
I had a bit of an outing on the MK3 today, the first time out this year kin weather .
I thought i was pushing me luck having a go at Butsor hill, and yes inevitably failed, I managed about a third of the way up, but then the one central rut scoured deeper by all that winter rain is about 750mm deep, so your having to stand to one side and lean well over the bike to push it.
A great day out though. When I stopped for a tea break at the BP garage in Petersfield, my speedo was reading 126 Ks, when I refilled the tank it took 6. 25 ltrs, that's the thick end of 20ks per litre.

Re: Not this time
Ive not tried up there only down!
Its not possible to ride down with feet on pegs as the rutt is so deep it brushes your feet off.

Re: Not this time
Yes,the rut more or less starts at the bottom of the hill, and snakes all the way up to the top, where the roots take over as the obstruction to forward progress.
The camera doesn't show the incline very well, it is quite steep.
Just off the line now used as the Byway is the scar of the old road, that was even steeper, but much wider than the miserable 2mtrs wide new track they laid out, when the old road was closed, and stopped up.
They've [ Hants R.O.W. department] been trying to shut this route for a couple of years now, and will undoubtedly take advantage of the winters excessive rainfall to accomplish this aim.

Re: Not this time
Unfortunately the first option will cost a lot, and the standard argument is we can't afford it, [ seldom a phrase that's used when it comes to footpath repairs.
The second option will be untenable when one of the walking brigade [ accidentally ] slip on the uneven going in their high heeled white trainers, and request an out of repair order, that the R.O.W. department have to enact, lest they get sued, nobody said the system was fair did they?

Re: Not this time
With some hindsight, I now believe this lane should be retitled to " Maidens Mile"
Why so, well I think only the dexterity sometimes displayed by members of opposite sex would be able to hold the heels behind the ears pose long enough to traverse this lane successfully, uh oh, , I might be in trouble.

Re: Not this time
I think that's the lane of the concrete approach road to the farm opposite the steepest lane up Butsor Hill.
It's certainly taken a pounding in the rains of winter.

Re: Not this time
they are legal but not on all lanes as they have 4 wheels so cant go down lanes with 4 wheel traffic regulation orders.
