Improving Soggy front suspension
I love my 1991 CRM 250 Mk 2 to bits, its just the front suspension that lets it down,saying I weigh in at 115 kg and there are no parts in South Africa for these bikes.
After tying various options I have settled on the following:
1 BMW GS 800 front springs 95kg rider rating (They are about 2cm shorter, but put washers on top of the damping rod to
take up the play on the damping rod)
2 7.5 weight fork oil
3 Bottom adjusters 1.5 turns open from fully closed. (Hope that makes sense)
This has changed this bike all together feels like a pro set up much faster through the rough stuff, does not sit any lower as there is much less static sag now.
I am also going to start exploring options for the rear spring.
I can truly say this is the best single thing I have ever done to improve this bike.

Suspension guru's will wince at the idea of this but as long as it feels better! Mineven are soggy too and the brake side has no lower adjustment been bodged with chemical metal. I may end up going your route!

with 2cm of shims I would expect you hae lost at least 1cm travel or maybe more?

I look at it like this have not lost any travel as the bike was sagging too much when i sat on it before and bottoming out in the rough stuff(not to mention no control), now it is much firmer, and can be ridden much faster in all types of terrain as well as being able to put the power on sooner when coming out of a corner and braking later going into a corner.After riding it a few times since the mod I am even more happy with it I can honestly say that this was a very worthwhile mod.

Here's the thing, just done the rear spring as well with a upgraded weight rating.(I think it was matched with a CR 250 Spring)
The bike has improved to point where it is very sure footed in all types of terrain and can be ridden much faster, no more bottoming out .
Should have made these changes in the beginning, I can not believe the difference that it has made to the suspension, and as a result to the ride.
I am loving my 1991 CRM 250 Mrk 2 more and more.

If you can get a set then the 1989 cr 125/250/500 forks are a gem on the CRM. They are rare as fuck but share the same components as other forks so easily serviceable

Axle and custom spacers needed, front brake/bracket should slot on nicely if everything is good
