Tyre Sizes for SM
Its safe to say its been a while since my last confession on this site......
I have an underused AR which is pretty much mint and its been languishing in the back of the garage, unused for the last couple of years, I have been renovating my 350 ypvs and trying to get a Ducati 900SL to come back to life.
I have decided to drag the AR out of the garage and get it back on the roads for a bit of winter fun. I have supermoto'd it with a set of XR400 wheels and I have done the usual 320mm disk conversion.
My question is this.......
I can get hold of a set of Goldspeed SM tyres pretty cheap but they only do the rear in a 160/60, will it fit? I dont want to go to the hassle of getting the wheel respoked so it is offset

Re: Tyre Sizes for SM
I fitted a 150/60 on mine and it only just fitted. I had to use a non-O-ring chain and some thin spacers. 140 (or even 130) apparently gives much better angles of lean.
Re: Tyre Sizes for SM
i had to use Aprilla rs125 fitment,Dunlop sportmax d207's-110/70zr17 frt chopped/trimmed fork guards to suit & 150/60zr17 rear- no chainguard, o ring chain but keep tyre pressures up!

Guys can I ask how close your rear tyre is to your chain?
I've just bought one with rs125 wheels in and it's got a 150/60 rear tyre, no chain guard and it must only be 5mm clearance
Looks abit unnerving to me?

If you change to a non-Oring chain that will give you more clearance and more power at the wheel. Win Win!!!
Re: Tyre Sizes for SM
Thanks fella, excuse my ignorance but that would be a x ring chain wouldn't it?
How do I know what I currently have fitted ?
cheers

Re: Tyre Sizes for SM
An 'X-ring' is just an alternative to an 'O-ring' based on the shape of the rings that keep the grease in. An ordinary chain (make sure it's an HD chain) is less wide and doesn't have any rings to keep the grease in. It is thus narrower and doesn't have the extra frag from the rings.

Ah ok cheers, any particular brand or anything? Or where to find them?
Have you managed to keep a upper chain guard?

My MK3 haves 150/60 Metzeler Mez4, O-R chain, no guard, enough space, but rim is 4.00" wide, fits perfect, drives nice.
