Off i go again

Post by back off road » 23 Aug 2011, 22:29

just when i thought things were done, and the bike was how i wanted it guess what :o

suspension time , thanks to mudfacetony and his ability to put ideas in my head  i.e rallys , ive decided theres no time like the present to get the bikes suspension upgraded and have a go :D

after thinking wether to get the standard suspension serviced and upgraded at the same time, or upgrade to better shox all round ive decided to go the hard way ,

just bought a rolling chassis with fully serviceable white power suspension front and back to convert the CRM with   why do i do things like this :?:

collected the bike tonight but wont be able to do anything until the weekend due to working away

Will keep you all posted on this latest idea / project

You will have no trouble with the forks. The most you might need is to swap the headstock spindle and fiddle about with the front wheel spacers/bearings.

The shock however is going to be a nightmare due to the reasons I have expounded on several times before. You will need professional help on this to get it anywhere near correct.

front end will be no problem as im transplanting the complete front end and as you say the headstock spindle may need swapping, the rear WILL be a pain but with plenty of research and messing im sure it will all come together , I think after this is done the bike may be finished

front ends are both out , yokes off to the engineers to get the steering stem swapped over then the back end to start on

Be aware that you might have slide the forks up in the yokes to get the same length - Steering head to wheel centre. Otherwise you will have 'chopper' handling.

Honda seem to have some daft ideas ,but the forks on the crm must rate as one of their dafter ones  , 54mm where the top yolk goes & 57mm on the bottom yoke :? , this may well help as the husky forks are 54mm so i may use the husky bottom yoke and the CRM spindle and top yoke , at least i no all the electrical gubbins will fit , just a case of altering the speedo to put the trail tech unit on

Looks like an interesting project - good luck :)

It's shame there isn't more that can be done with the original forks as fitting any decent alternatives seems to involve a bit of work!

plenty can be done with the standard forks depending on your budget , springs ,revalveing ,etc but compared to what i paid on the rollingc chassis it wasnt economically viable to start doing anything with the std forks

Oh I see, I hadn't read a great deal but it seemed as though most just accepted the forks were a bit soft.

I didn't realise aftermarket springs were available.

Either way, you can't argue with WP :D

the comparison between std inlet and the new one so the 35mm pwk can go on.

Std one is on the left with the tiny hole

best part is that the vforce3's line up perfectly with the inlet passage in the CR manifold, but dont line up with the CRM manifold.

as you can see if the pic, the cr one is off to the side a little :)
