I dont think your gonna be getting all the seals an that what helisupp listed for £300, but you dont have to change them.
You dont have to change the balance shaft either.
Its a case of if your planning on keeping the bike a while, its worth replacing certain things.

If you just want to get it running then replace minimum. Balance shaft might last for yonks yet

Is this a rebuild, or a quick repair..............if its a quick repair then title of thread is misleading.

If its a rebuild.....£500 is more like a figure for a rebuild.

I took the bike apart when it stopped running and a mechanic informed me that the main bearing's were gone and should be replaced. This is what has led me to this position. I'm just trying to get my baby running again, but in doing so stop it from breaking again any time within the next couple of years. I just figured that splitting the cases and re-assembly would count as a rebuild, is this is not the case then apologies for misleading. I am a novice and doing my best to learn.

I phoned Leisure Trail today, the quoted me £350 ish for:-

-Main bearing's and seals
-Gear box bearings and seals
-Full gasket set
-Kick start bolt
-Sprockets and chains

Can anyone tell me how to correctly check a bearing as I honestly have no idea. I have just turned them in situ and listened/felt for any grinding. Is my method correct?

I have another question, O-ring chain, yes or no? Are they worth the extra money spent on them?

£350 is is getting on for £500......LT quote prices excluding VAT, hopefully yours included VAT.

O ring is the way to go, or you will spend most of your time adjusting a drooping chain.

Feel for any roughness or wobbling when spinning the bearing. The balance shaft bearings are notoriously fragile, though rarely actually fail, they just get noisier.
Most bearings other than the mains, and afore mentioned should not have undue wear.
L.T. should be able to give good, though not copper bottomed guaranteed advice.
Fixer upper, replace as little as possible, be the caveat is SOMETHING can still fail.
Keeper? I would be looking at longevity, and replacing all internal casing bearings.

Anyone got any experience with Athena for gasket sets?

They have a full set available for just 41 euros!

I've not heard any bad feedback on them, " Fishy" swears by them, and might actually be their best customer   .

On another note, did you ask LT what is included in the gasket set, they told me they do not sell sets, they just put them in a packet.

Make sure you get the exhaust gasket.

Hi again guy's,today I went to Leisure Trail and I have to say, I was very pleased with the service that I received.

One of the guy's there, labelled their CRM expert, checked all of my bearings for me and spent time talking me through me next steps.

I purchased:

-Front and rear sprockets, and new O-ring chain.
-Crank case gasket.
-Head gaskets, upper and lower.
-Exhaust gasket.
-Set of Carb seal's.
-Main bearings and seals.
-Gear selector drum bearing.
-Kick start bolt.
-Front sprocket bolt.
-Piston circlips.
-Tub of grease.
-Brake fluid.
-Motor oil.

They even threw in a workshop manual for the CRM.

I got everything for £281 and the odd pence.

I'm sure there were a couple of other items that I can't remember, overall though I was really happy with the price I paid and service received.

Now I have the task of removing the main bearing's. I have tried heating the case up and then applying the socket and "hammer the fuck out of it" method, but a dare not hit it any harder.

Any advice guy's? My balls are starting to tingle now I have all of my part's! I want it back together!

So did you buy a clutch casing gasket......and are you going to do all this work and put the original piston rings back in.

Surely it deserves a set of rings poor thing.

I already had a clutch casing gasket and yes, I am going to attempt all of the work myself.

There is nothing wrong with the piston rings, I am going to replace the whole piston when I have the money. At least that doesn't require splitting the crank cases again.

I may take so long reassembling the bottom end that I have the money for the new piston before it all goes back together. I am really taking my time as I get heavy handed when I get frustrated.

Just having trouble removing the main bearings at the moment.

Is there not a little engineering shop near you? £10 for a borrow of the fly press might well save a huge amount of frustration.
