You should also have a chain guard fitted if proposing to carry a pillion passenger ;)

Theres no mounts on my swingarm for a chainguard. Besides im not talking about touring the country with a pillion but if i need to give a lift 10 minutes away and theres no other means then that option is there. i dont see it as an issue ;)

It's an mot fail if you have rear pegs and no chain guard, so, take em off for the mot ;) ;)

Good idea, i'll make sure i do that. the rear pegs will be sat in my spares box most of the time anyway because they're unnecessary weight, but at least I know i have some there if i need em :)

All thats left to do now is to fix the leaky oil sensor and then i can reassemble the bike. I have an '03 CR sump guard as well but i dont know if it fits yet or whether i like the look of it enough to use it. More fettling today i think is in order 8-)

If you on about the oil level sensor in the frame the new one from Leisure Trail for my mk2 was about £43

I did think about buying a replacement but It seems that the leaking sensor is a common fault for the CRM and i didn't want to replace it with another one only for it to leak again some day, so I decided to save myself a few quid by removing it and plugging the hole instead.

I thought it best to leave the wiring connected but replaced the sensor with a rubber 'test tube' type bung. Ive put a seal of silicone around it and hit it in tight with a hammer & block of wood... usually after being parked for an hour there are drips of 2 stroke on the floor but 12 hours have passed and the bike is still dry underneath so im confident there wont be any more leak

The paintwork that the previous owner did on the side panels was a bit sh*t so ive redone it....

As i started to sand, the paint was just scratching off because no primer was even used :roll: so i just continued to scrape the old paint off

i sanded the plastic with 400gritt wet and dry to remove the scratches and shiny finish to give the surface a key for the paint to stick to

about 5 coats of red plastic primer and sanded with 1500 in between applications

i thought these plastics might of been the only original panels but they're dated '89 so theyre either off a mk1 CRM or even a CR... Theres a real triggers broom selection of panels here :lol:

I put the rest of the bike together tonight, All slotted together apart from the last piece, the seat :roll: The tank seems to be fitted in the right position but the bolts on the rear of the seat dont seem to line up with the frame. More fettling tomorrow i think.

Assuming a lot of you guys here probably know more about these bikes than i do, i could use a bit of help :BB

ive put the side panels and seat back on and im noticing that the seat doesnt sit flush with the tops of the panels and the two bolt holes which mount the seat also dont quite line up with the treads on the subframe. Ive tried to make the panels and seat sit better yet no luck because everything appears (to me) to be fitted correctly :|

does anybody have any suggestions?

I have a Mk3 but am wondering whether you have fitted the front of the seat correctly. There are two rectangular loops on the sub frame into which two "protrusion" on the seat base fit. If the seat base is sitting on top of these loops then it could result in the gap....

thanks andrew. It was exactly that, the seat was sat on top of them... I spent over an hour wrestling with it last night for it to turn out to be something so simple and it slotted together properly in about 20 seconds this morning :roll: :lol:
