Hi all... just acquired a project bike

Hello from deepest, darkest North Yorkshire (well, that's an accurate description of the moorland bogs round here anyway!) Used to ride enduros years ago, got into trials and that's where I've been for a while although I recently started thinking that it might be nice to do a bit of trailriding and maybe the odd LDT or rally. And thanks to a somewhat tortuous series of events, I now have a CRM mk.3 sharing garage space with my Beta Rev3s.

The previous owner used it almost exclusively as a competition enduro bike and it's been stripped of all road kit, has a full FMF pipe, Boyesen reeds, key bypass etc. I'd like to get it back on the road and this shouldn't be too much trouble since I've also got a box full of the stuff removed. The main problem is that I'm sure there's also been some more involved engine work done at some point because the bloody thing rides like a 'crosser - it's 250cc of screaming two-stroke terror with a very distinct powerband. Not what I'd been lead to expect from a CRM and not really what I'm looking for (hey, I'm not really complaining, it was CHEAP - the previous owner's emigrated) but hence the fact that I'm treating this bike as a bit of a project.

I AM missing a couple of parts that I'm sure will be needed for an MOT: Chainguard for example and I'd like to get hold of some ally frameguards (anyone know a source for these?) and a bashplate. But the main thing is the engine which I need to calm down a bit so expect lots of dumb questions in the technical forum before long!

Hi Steve and welcome :) If you take the rear footrests off, you dont need a chain guard for mot. As for the bits you need, you could try Leisure trail, or even make a bash plate. The high revving sounds as if the power valve as been fixed fully open. Good luck with the project mate :)
