New Here!

Post by rc46 » 30 Nov 2017, 09:44

After years of TZR's. TDR's KR1-S's. NSR's i have finally bought the working 2 stroke horse i needed. After an initial outing and a little fall on some green lanes, i soon relised the bike is built well and can handle pretty much anything. got myself a Mk2 with fairly low milage and is fairly standard....
Its on the bench for top end (no history so better to be safe than sorry) carb rebuild, Bossen Reeds, Suspension linkage refresh, bearing check and all the other bits than may go wrong.... so next year i can have a blast, Love it to bits not the fastest two stroke i own but bloody well made and tough as nails..... Engine seems to be really strong.....

Why do a top end rebuild? Just do a compression test if you are worried. These engines last forever.

Experience tells me that a compression test can't detect wear in the Ring Locating Pin, Now with some of my other bikes this failed due to wear and tear (except the kawa that was a known fault) hence the ring spins hits the exhaust port and wap i now have a big big bill, id rather spend £80 now and run her for another 5000 miles than have summer ruined next year.... I know the Engines are strong but the old girl is 25 years old and its probably a good thing. Carb definitely needs attention.... Since removing the Exhaust i think a DEP system is also on the cards bloody hell the standard system is heavy....

Spun Ring from the TDR......

Thank You V Much..... And just to Add. The top end was off last night and we found Pitting in the Rod and Gudgeon Pin so now its a full rebuild LOL Bloody Two strokes, If you are struggling for Engine bits Bearings, Rods pistons and the like, BDK engineering have been building my engines for years and some of my old TZ race bikes parts are NLA but they still find a way to keep em going..........

Sounds good. Let us know if they can rebuild your crank then because I have a spare duff one on my desk as a paper weight. The Crank rod is a thing of legend as Honda don't sell them. LT send the cranks off for rebuild (which is the failed one on my desk) but wont say (or don't know) what the rod is from! I have seen hot Rods 8111 being used but not confirmed as the correct fitment using a CR250 pin 25x59.6 and the bearing to suit 25x31x17. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qw9ps8adSHk

I have already had this discussion with BDK, initially the said they could only get a Forged Piston for the CRM because of the rod...., however now the Rod is needing replacing they have the option to provide a different rod / piston set up... I'm going out on Thursday 14th with the engine so ill ask, Where did yours fail? If you have a pic you can send ill ask em what rod it is....

Spoke to BDK they can supply new rod, bearing and piston kit, would normally need the Barrel and Head to match it all, and of course the Old Crank...., the only question would be the condition of the crank pin on your crank, if its damaged it may need a new Pin..... They have in the past made new Crank pins for the KR1s as the became NLA, Have a look at the web site its basic and old and not well layed out but he is an engineer not an IT guy. www.BDKRACEENG.co.uk

Who knows how they get the pin out? though these cranks had to have the pin cut in half and pushed out due to the sheet metal covers?

Well my bike poo itself today so Might be giving them a call. Did they sort your crank OK?
Looks like my lube failed as internals are dry as a bone. Mains, big end, small end all shot. bore not scored though but piston dry as a bone too.
Need a full rebuildnow so just pricing it all up.

They have not got back to me yet, (they do take there time) I have no doubt they will get something together, I have asked for the Engine back by End of Feb, Matt (from BDK) said that he would be getting a working combo of Crank and Rod to work with a piston, Because of the Xmas shut down ill be giveing them a call early next week as they also have the rolling chassis now as the bottom end would not come out ( the swing arm spindle is seized in place)
