Blind auction buy

Hi all,

I have just purchased a MK3 CRM from an online auction without viewing.
Big mistake, while the motor and box seem good and all swing arm and linkage bearings are tip top, all the electrics, lights and switchgear are gone.
Power valve servo gone and valve jammed open with a screw!
2T oil tank gone.
Speedo cable gone.
Clocks gone.
Frame painted black.
Forks are scrap due to corrosion.

So I'll be asking plenty of questions.
If anyone has any parts to sell, drop me a line.

To be honest you might want to split the bits and sell separately to fund a 'More Complete' purchase?

At least the motor and gearbox are ok. For me, the fun was the challenge of repairing it all. YouTube, blogs etc are all very helpful. Enjoy doing it 👍

If you have the time and money then what you are suggesting is perfectly posible as long as the frame has a road registration.

I speak from some experience ;)

Good luck with your rebuild, finding parts is quite the challenge. I’ve been collecting and sourcing parts for months for my Mk2.
Still loads to get but hopefully staring the rebuild soon.

Keep us posted with how you get on.

I have rebuilt a Mk3 (was an absolute shed but Now looks like a brand new AR as the parts were easier to get) its now on the road with a nice set of SM wheels. I am in the process of rebuilding a Mk1 which I bought for bits, but decided it was too nice to split.
Had it running for the 1st time only to find the crank seals are leaking oil and air after being stood in someone's shed 20 years :(
So, engine rebuild in the spring when my shed warms.
I have managed to track down most parts some new some NOS and a lot of 2nd Hand
I have a few Leftovers and duplicates, Let me know what your after, I'll help if I can, or at least try and point yo in the right direction

I see there is a MK 3 on Ebay, less the motor, cheapish, might be worth a look.

Hi,

Been collecting bits since I got it.
NovemberEchoBravo pointed me towards buyee.jp
A revelation, sooo much stuff.
I don't have any bodywork yet as I was concentrating on the missing bits like servo, cables, clocks, lights etc.
Still on the hunt for a loom, as any non essential parts of have been chopped.
I bought 2001 cr 125 forks but have just discovered they don't fit.
Now I'm thinking the triple clamp isn't original as there is nowhere for the ignition barrel to go.

I would appreciate a few pictures of a the top clamp, clocks and gubbins behind it.
Also, pictures of the oil reservoir and pipework and servo etc.

The triple clamps don't have a hole for the ignition barrel, the barrel is mounted on a bracket mounted to the underside of the clamps. These are the only pic of the clamps I have to hand.

What size are the cr forks you bought?

Hi,

Ok, it looks like I have the right yokes then.

After a lot of investigation, it would appear I have purchased 1996+ CR500 forks which were labelled as CR125.

I'm trying to find the thread on this forum which listed CR125 forks as a straight swap on MK3 CRM.
I own a 2001 CR125 and the forks don't fit.

Back to the drawing board.

The forks I bought are 52.85mm at upper clamp and 58.95 at the lower clamp.

Couple of sets of AR forks on buyee.jp but they won't post them here.😡😡

You'll have to go through Rinkya to get anything with oil or air out of Japan, Expect to pay £200 postage (that's what I paid last year) as Fedex are the only ones who will transport.
Its expensive but you get genuine CRM forks

I would say study them very closely, the ally Showa used on these forks is a pretty low grade so most are in a poor condition
It seems the CR/CRF Showa forks are far more robust and able to withstand the battering and small chips in the anodise. if your CRM has been in a beach race at any point then your tubes are history

When I was thinking of options I measured the old forks.
Top Yolk Tube dia: 53.5mm
Btm Yolk Tube dia: 57.0mm

I still have the old forks in the corner of the shed, The top Tubes are pretty corroded but not right though. I have filed most of the corrosion out to stop it spreading and dabbed with a little alocrom to seal.
Was keeping for spares but probably will never use them, the seals probably need doing but they might get you going. Where in the UK are you?

Other option is to talk to your local MX dealer and find a friendly Machinist who will open up your lower clamp for the price of a couple of beers
You could use 0.5mm ally tape 1 wrap at the top yolk to pack out, just be careful not to tear the tape when installing.

What size are the cr forks you bought?
Do away with the ignition barrel and add a on/off hidden switch. Easy to set up and a brain dead waster will never figure it out

So after more than 7 months of reading, testing, searching, buying etc, we have completed MK3.
Just need to mount a headlight and get an mot.
Would love to post a picture but it seems only God can do so on this forum 😱😱
