Hi folks my name is Shane , I have just purchased a CRM250 1994 model these bikes were never sold in South Africa so I'll have to import most of the parts , this one has been neglected and I plan to do a total restoration, first thing I'd like to establish before tearing her down is a spark ... there is none , I've removed and tested the coil and it would seem that the coil is faulty, before I try to get one on ebay does anyone out there know whether or not I can use a suitable coil from a different bike that will work as a permanent replacement ? any advice would be appreciated

Hi Shane and welcome.
If your testing confirms that the coil is duff, IMO, a genuine replacement would be far better, perhaps one like this?

i use a honda h100s coil on mine and it works perfect my mate is also running one that i gave him no issues at all

another thing you might struggle with is powervalve cables these are no longer made and very hard to get but a direct replacement is honda nsr 125 foxeye ones they fit better than standard and are easy to get

thanx for the response guys much appreciated , I did manage to buy a coil off ebay... I appreciate the tips particularly the powervalve cables tip I would never have known that , fortunately there is a cable company in my area that make up new cables for any purpose so long as I have a sample. Once again thanks for the help guys , at least I know there is something I can substitute in the future if necessary

why would you suggest the powervalve cables ? do they stretch or are breakages common ?

The difficulty with the cables is usually fraying at the ends due to normal wear. The end connectors are the difficult to replace items.

the reason i mentioned them is because my crm was in a bad way when i got it and mine were in a terrible state it puts the servo and ecu under a lot of strain that could bring you major electrical issues (you don't want them trust me)
