Hi from Perth, Aus

Hi guys,

I picked up a 1999 CRM250AR a couple of months ago and its great.

Its in fairly good condition, the oil injection has been disconnected and I'm not overly keen on the graphics but otherwise it's a fantastic bike. Its got some pretty aggressive knobblies on it right now which are no good on the highway and and aftermarket headlight that points way too high so my first priorities are tyres and then perhaps try and find an OEM headlight.

I'll try and work out how to post a pic...

cheers, N8

Hi N8

OEM headlight...........good luck on that one, not seen any for sale, and they are £300 from Honda.

I know as I bought 2 last year (one as a spare).

Now thinking that if you own an AR you should start collecting spares.

There is a screw by the lens that adjusts the beam height.

As Steve says, yes it can be adjusted, but I think the Honda philosophy was just "be seen", because you really don't want to get caught out after dark.
Premix on an AR sort of nullifies the point of the AR.

Welcome,

Good to see another Aussie on the board. I have a spare stock headlight with one of the mounting tabs broken of lying around somewhere.

Thanks for the welcome :)

The aftermarket headlight/indicators combo has no adjustment, its just cheap ebay rubbish that the previous owner put on after he broke the original.

I managed to find a parts list and from the part number I found a headlight at a shop in Australia for $120. I still have the original surround.

The carb, and the autolube pump are specifically set up to dose the correct amount of fuel and oil in the exact ratios required for general usage.
If you use premix you alter the mixture, normally leaning off the fuel to air mix, because people always use too much oil, mistakenly believing it will help the engine, when in fact the reverse is the case.

Bad idea on a road bike not using the oil pump, when slowing down no oil getting to engine.

I would have thought the same goes for any oil injection bike on premix, not specifically the AR. But anyway, I've got what I got so I'll have to make do.

I wouldn't mind going back to oil injection but I'm guessing the tanks would be pretty hard to come by, no? Does anyone know where I might be able to find them?

Ah, OK. Has the brass oil inlet been sealed off ? It's located on the rubber manifold.
What ratio of 2T are you running, 2% ?
Rinka, might be a source for parts for you.

I'm running 2.5% (40:1). The hose into the manifold was plugged. My air screw is 1-1/4 turns out, I don't know what main jet is installed.

I managed to find all the parts online (Deakin Hionda) to reinstate the oil injection: tanks, hoses, filters, throttle cable, hardware. I tested the pump on the weekend and it pumps, so fingers crossed it will all work ok when the parts arrive.

ps. for those who need parts in Aus, Deakin Motorcycles has an excellent online parts ordering system

cheers, n8

You'll find that all the good Honda dealers have the online fiche systems now. It's best to shop around at a couple to see which one will give you the best price.

I've been dealing with Western motorcycles (in Penrith) and they have been good, I'll see what the Deakin prices are like.

Action Honda in Parramatta are pretty good too. Slightly cheaper than Western Motorcycles. Although not many of the guys even know about the CRM. I'll have to check out Deakins prices also. I found a guy in carringbah that used ot import the CRM's so I bought most of his "NOS". Included crank bearings, mounting bracket, rear footrests etc.
