Plastics

You can paint faded/scratched plastics but you have to get them very clean and free of at least major scratches. Then primer and paint - satin looks better than gloss but to be honest it still looks pants  .

It's a lot of hassle when you can buy new parts for some.

Mk1/2:

Mk1/2 plasics are all the same structure. Mk1s are mostly red, though there were a few white ones made. Mk2s are all white.

Front mudguard, radiator scoops and rear mudguard are made by aftermarket suppliers (UFO are the easiest to find) as CR parts. Honda have no front fenders, exhaust side panels, headlight surrounds and rad scoops left for CRMs or CRs.

Front mudguards - CR 125, 250 & 500 from '87-'99 fit Mk1 & Mk2
Rear mudguards - CR 125, 250 & 500 from '87-'89 ('90 for CR125 & 500) fit Mk1 & Mk2 (You need to cut out a panel to fit the CRM original rear light cluster)
Radiator shrouds - CR 125 '89-'90 & CR 250 '88-'89 fit Mk1 & Mk2
Radiator shrouds from CR500 DO NOT FIT but can be made to by making up some extension brackets to the radiators (Don't look quite right though).
Sidepanels - Are all unique to CRM. The non-airbox lid side panel can be replaced using a CR 125 .etc.. panel but you have to modify the mounting point.

Mk3/AR:

AR and Mk3 plastics are interchangeable but as far as I know there are no other plastics that fit (apart from front fenders).

Back off Road has found that 1998 CR500 fork guards are a direct swap for his Mk2. I suspect that all late 1990s fork guards will fit on CRMs but they all need to be modified if you are keeping the original speedo drive.

More radical option:

You could do a CRM conversion to CR plastics. If you have a combination of time, skill & a little money. Basically you convert a CRM to use a CR subframe and airbox +/- tank if you want, so you can use CR plastics. Most common conversions are using parts from a CR250 '94-'96 (pre-aluminium frame). This means that total cost of new plastics can be drastically reduced and more options are available in colours and graphics.

An example can be found at - viewtopic.php?f=14&t=6110. For this conversion the total cost of plastics (no fork guards & headlight surround) was £65 (03/11). A new Mk3/AR sidepanel is almost this much alone if you can find one....

Plastics Suppliers

UFO - http://www.ufoplasticusa.com/

Acerbis - http://www.acerbis.it/

Maier - http://www.maier-mfg.com/

The whole range of plastics supplied is not usually on a website and there are sometimes items available in 'old stock' kept by the manufacturer or the importer, so be persistent in your enquiries :!: .

UFO are best source of Mk1/2 plastics. Mainly in Red, White and Black but they are not quite the same fit as original Honda but they are pretty damn close!.
