Brakes

The standard brakes on the CRM were never particularly good. Twenty years of abuse will not have improved them.

A good service including changing the fluid and replacing the old hoses with braided stainless steel ones will do a lot to improve them. However calipers do sieze and corrode to the point where replacement is the only option. All CRM front calipers are exchangeable as are the majority of other Nissin calipers fitted to off road bikes. So are the front master cylinders though MXers have no switch for the front brake but this can be rectified by using a pressure switch (cost ~ £14 (now ~£20 2012  )). Thus there are members running XR, CRF, CR, DRZ, YZ and other OE fitment front calipers. Rear calipers are a little more specialised and XR 400 will fit for sure but others are unknown at present.

The front and rear disks of all CRMs are exchangeable. XR250, 400 and 650 front disks will fit but only XR250 and 400 rears will. Older CRs are an obvious candidates but at the moment are unknown.

For those that want to go up to 320mm front disk for SuperMoto then Talon has an extender bracket so you can use you original brake cailper. They sell as for an XR400. With braided hoses this makes for excellent on road brakes but is a bit too severe for off roading ;) .

EBC codes for brake pads:
Fronts - EBC FA185 or EBC FA125
Rear Mk1 - EBC FA153
Other rears - FA131

Bolt that holds the rear brake pedal is Honda 90101-KAE-000
