Rear shock rebuild

Post by xander77 » 27 May 2011, 19:50

Well the shock is off the bike and going to the shop for a rebuild tomorow, bikes nearly there, cosmetics are a bit rought, but all chassis bearings are replaced wheel bearings, and the forks have been rebuilt, just the rear shock, then move onto the engine next, and finally a strip for painting making it pretty! riding in between all this so still enjoying the old CRM getsme up the trails!!

Anyone had a shock rebuilt? wondering if you can feel the difference when its done?
You would expect to as its 16 years old?

Anyone got thoughts on this

Well worth doing. You will notice the difference.

Depending on how big you are and how much you have to spend you might want to increase the damping and possibly the spring.

Not too bad around 10 stone! so maybe the standard will be ok? Lad in the shop said "yeh CR shock from 1989-1992 without the rebound! must of saved a few quid!" so seems to know what he is talking about! hoping to feel the diff on the next rock strewn lane!!

10 stone should be OK unless you ride fast.

I did the same thing, spent a fortune on bearins an seals, this, that, the other. An it still looks a bit of a rat. Could have easily have bought a newer bike with what ive spent.

But at least i know its all sorted an should last years. You could go orange an still find your spendin on the serviceable bits. An even find its not as good as your crm.

So enjoy the fruits of your labour 8-)

seems the way to go, i considered a change but decided what a top end rebuild would cost on a newish four stroke , i only paid about the same for the crm ,it suits what i use it for so refurbish what ive got and no its right seemed to make more sense :D
