hi there so my mk1 is in need of a rear shock upgrade as its getting pretty soft, i thought hagon didnt make a shock for the mk1 but on flebay there is some marked up as fitting 1989-1990 any idea if it'll fit? or is it likely to be mk2 fitment

cheers

The Hagon shock fits the Mk2 it is too long for the Mk1 without modification.

yeah i know there not interchangeable unless swapping the swing and modding the frame, so the shocks on flebay are most likely to be for a mk2 and they have put in the wrong year, ill get on to them for length from eye to eye just to make sure

Have you ruled out having yours re-oiled and gassed? They can put some better quality oil in for off road use.

As mike says i would focus on rebuilding yours, the hagon monoshocks are bloody expensive and don't look like an upgrade at all. A rebuild with new seals bumper gas etc. Shouldnt cost much over £100

The Hagon shock is very much an upgrade. The springing and damping are much better suited to 'an average European build'. The damping system is also adjustable.

Admitedly they probably come with more favorable settings out of the box than a stock shock, you could have a stock one rebuilt, sprung for you weight and revalved for your preffered speed and terrain for less though, so its well worth considering unless your current shock is a total write off

As an example my suspension tuner charges £250 to rebuild and revalve the front and rear together, minus the cost of parts like springs which are about £80 if you need them
