Frame welding

Post by CRM Si » 11 Apr 2021, 17:23

Question about welding... my mk2 has developed a small hole in the frame on bottom left hand side tubing, near to gear lever. Do I need to do any preparation before welding I.e unplug pgm unit, coils etc? Or would it be ok to mig/tug weld without doing any prep? Not me actually doing the welding but just checking before I arrange for hole to be repaired.
Thanks in advance. :)

Update on fame welding. In order to remove any risk to electrical components during tig welding, I unplugged all connectors, ecu and disconnected the earth straps. Frame is now welded with nothing electrically damaged. I can’t be sure if this was necessary but better to be safe than sorry. :D
