CRF is shorter and has considerably less power ~20bhp :?: . Some come with lights for on road.

A more direct comparison is the CRF250x (I think, as there is an enduro version which is OK for trail riding and a motocross version that is not really suitable).
The CRF230 is small and air cooled 4 stroke, classed as a motocross bike but easily adapted for the road. I think it is made in Brazil. A friend of mine has one and it is a great bike but he has to work it very hard to keep up with everyone else. Suspension is basic with no adjustments. The only reason he has it is that he is very short and this is also the reason it appeals to lady riders.

The latest CRF 250 has fuel injection and up to date suspension.

Talking to a friend who had changed from a CRM MK2 to the new CRF250 - " yes it is better but nowhere near as much as expected".

A point to remember is that an engine rebuild on a CRF will cost a lot more than a CRM. If buying second hand a bit of care is required there were lots of top ends going especially on motocrossers.
