Got it running but revs like mad!

Post by adic3001 » 27 Jul 2012, 16:37

Hi guys, finally got the wiring sorted on my new project crm 250 mk2. Got it started but it revved like crazy! I'm thinking it's probs the carb settings, what do you guys think? Iv left that side of things alone for now until I get some advice/ find some info as got plenty of other things to sort out.

Does anyone know the base carb settings so I have something to work from?

Another thing I was wondering is how can I tell if the oil/fuel mix system is working as don't want to run it without knowing that for obvious reasons! Or does anyone know how much oil to fuel ratio is needed so I can just premix for now?

Sorry for the noob questions but I figured it's better to ask than mess it up! I have done a lot of searching on the web but it's hard to find clear answers!

Iv got the finished bike all planned out now so once she's running right it won't be too long until il be posting finished pics on here! Can't wait! :-)

Thanks for looking

Adi

Hi guys just found nice link to the specs/settings for my bike on this site! Silly me! Lol
Anyway I won't get chance to work on the carb until Sunday so il do some more digging until then. Does anyone know where I can buy new/different size jets for the bike incase I need them at some point?

Cheers

Thanks for the link Eddie Evans. After some more searching around iv got a few things to look for now which il be doing on Sunday:

Check that the float height is correct
Check the slide is seated correctly
Check for air leaks around the rubber boot/manifold on the carb
Also check for air leaks around crank seals (hope it's not this)
Also checking the setup of the carb.

Does anyone have any other suggestions of what to look for?

Ckeck that the throttle moves fully and freely. Also no frayed wires on cable or split cover.

I had the same issue on mine, had to set the throttle stop to lower the slide further at Idle.

Been working on the bike the last few days & got it ticking over & running perfect now.

Mine was the same as yours Jeram. As soon as I took the carb off I realised.
I just need to tune it when I can actually ride it as its smoking a fair bit.

Thanks for all the advice guys
