nice tip - actually I been saving empty cat biscuit bags for a while... they resealable zip lok deals... I wash em out but my gearbox is still gonna smell of whiskers! will have even more dogs chasing me...

I prob gonna have to take a million photos as well..

I thinking gonna lay a tarp on the ground.. wheel bike on top of it so I can find the bolts etc I no doubt drop.. . and start by getting as much of engine apart as I can... that will help on 2 fronts.. can use chain as mentioned and light the load abit...

already mentioned to the wife about freezer and oven requirements...

she's remarkably chilled about the whole thing - but keeps scoffing I should get something orange...... ( why did I teach her to ride a motorbike - now she knows it all! )

I got a few strips of aluminum hanging around kind of ... I guess I'll work it out when I see it.... hope I can do over a period of a week or so,,,

will wait for the gasket set first... but might have a peer in the barrel via the exhaust port tomorrow - see if that gives a clue...

A complete clutch is worth £30-£35.

yeah I think I better take it apart an see whats what-

for sure I need to get some bearings.. if 'm lucky its just the arm as mentioned in the FAQ... not sure where I can get a TRX basket machined around here if I did need,,

fingers X'd I dont,,

I got a vibe that the piston is damaged some how? does that happen when its revvign dangerously fast an furiously? must have been a lean mixture too? cos it was closed throttle.. yet,,,

Maybe the piston rings didnt survive that last one? Had a mk1
That seized because of oil indicator faliure and the rider could stop
The engine right before it blocked up. After ading some 2t oil and cooling
Dow it rant with that same noise as yours did. After 2 months of severe
Weather and WOT rides through the bushes it finaly R.I.P. As the piston rings made
180 turn and got eaten by the exhaust port. These things are hard to kill.

didnt get chance to get out an take a look today,,,

did get a bit of time to do some reading tho..

from crm@jeremythomson.co.uk how to,,

>Crank main bearings £20
>Crank seals £20

so these from Honda?

he also said

>Other smaller bearings, around £15 per pair plus seals.

which ones are these? I'm gonna need to order them probably? might take time... ( neighbours may complain if I leave the bike in 'street' outside our house for tooo long... )

there are a lot of shops that jus sell bearings and races not far from me... ( they seem to sell nothing but bearings an look to have a million different sizes... )

go down with old ones an see if I can get ones the same size and 'style'

ah so will have to see em, bet I end up waiting 6 weeks for a bearing that costs 4 pounds 50..

reading the guide again.. suggests leaving the cylinder head on until engine removed. any reason?

I would have thought less is less when lifting the thing out?

interesting,, so my mk3 ECU/CDI would work then... obviously I have the flywheel....

havent heard from athena whether they shipped my gaskets,.. this would allow me to get riding again. altho at some expense.. ( spare engine aint terrible right? )

its whether its done well - the company well known,,

250 quid if it does have the new piston in ( piston is almost a 100 right there? )

I have 15 hours to decide - or one of u lot beats me to it!

( the shipping might be expensive tho! )

Problem is Matt the shipping might well cost more than you paid for the engine.......

Surely you can get an engine locally if you want to go down that route :?: .
