another balance shaft topic :)

Post by pudzie83 » 09 Apr 2013, 16:04

im just in the process of rebuilding the crm after removing the balance cog very easy job and hopefully in a few hours il be sticking two fingers up at that noise for good :) depending on the outcome of the ride. Ive read in a old topic that it can be removed completely and capped off resulting in quite a bit of weight saved.
Has any one done this them selfs? and what was used to cap it off?

at the moment the shaft is staying disconnected as i like it :) there is a very noticeable gain, in all honesty i like it alot as my crm is on mitas with a 14/50 set up and far from standard it feels like a cr with a 6th gear so the vibrating is barely noticeable. It also ticks over when cold and starts easier and sounds different in a crosser way.
Now as i have two balance shafts im going to mod one of them by cutting the weight off and get a 17mm bolt welded on so it acts as a big spacer/axle and i can hold it from the generator side easy with a socket this way the bearings can sit there without any trouble and oil stays where its meant to be
