Brakes?

Hi guy's,

It's been a while since my last post. After I managed to split the crank case by over tightening the oil drain plug, I have had it welded and managed to get it to hold oil using a combination of make-shift gasket, epoxy sealant and, hope's and dream's.

I have now removed the caliper to change the front inner tube, only to find that the pin holding the brake pad's in, is completely solid inside the thread. I have tried everything to remove it to no resolve, so am now going to replace the whole caliper until I decide what to do with the current one.

My question is, where would be the best place to get myself a replacement? I have read the thread on brakes and searched on eBay where they come up at about £38-£60. Does anyone know of where I may be able to get one cheaper?

ebay is your best bet mate stick to sellers with high feedback as 9/10 times its all good

I figured as much. Do you know how easy/hard it would be to have the pin drilled and the hole re-tapped, as opposed to buying a whole new caliper? I am trying to find the cheapest option here to get me back on the road.

Wd40 and an impact driver should get the pin out. If it's not going to come out you may aswell get brutal with it and try everything before buying another caliper. It's an Allen key fitting isnt it from memory?

as longmore said a bit of force needed and id add some heat to it as seazed metal likes heat

drilling is the last option before replacement

I have taken it to my local used motorcycle dealer and they said they are happy to do it at the cost of £10-£20 depending on the difficulty of the task as I haven't got the time this week. Bloody pain when people don't grease thing's properly!

Just wait till you have to take swing arm pivot bolt out........
