Ar problems

Post by jamesb » 02 Mar 2015, 07:20

Hi I've bought a ar I've taken it out for a run and if seem to have a few problems
No1 the engine sounds great but now and again it will make a screaching noise then go away
No2 somone has disconnected a small solenoid ? That has 2 small pipes and linked them out ?
No3 the idle is up and down sometimes it races one you return it to idle ?
Is there anywhere I can buy or get a workshop manaul

Thanks guys

Jamesb,

Welcome, you are on the right site.

The full factory AR manual is 318 pages in total, and includes photos on nearly every page so too big to email. I have it in JPEG format so is a large file and would have to go onto a USB stick, but its great for zooming in on pages for details views. £10 for the a copy if you supply the stick.

However it will not be the cure, you need to find out whats going on with this engine:

1.connect the pipes back up where they should go
2.strip and clean carb making sure not been mucked about with
3.check regulator output voltage
4.check powervalve cables working by removing cover and watching while you rev the bike

For quick diagnosis and to eliminate the fuel system, fit a temporary replacement carb (we have them available), and connect the lines properly. If you are close to Gloucester it would only take 30 minutes to swap it out and check it.(sorry we do not lend anything out)

This is how pipes must be connected.

The screeching is a strange one, hopefully clutch is tight and not butchered like many have been.

If the clutch has been recently changed it might be the the first bezel spacer has been omitted, or is in arse about face.

No1 no clue
No2 which one? there are quite a few
No3 Mine hunts on the idle but it doesnt hang. revs hanging is a sign of a lean condition (AR's run lean) but is probably to do with the disconnected pipes.
