Replacement for CRM (now that it's been nicked)

Post by bob » 28 Mar 2015, 11:29

My bike was stolen last week. More details can be seen here:

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=9770

Ideally I would like to get another CRM. Mine was a mkI in very tidy condition with one previous owner and 18k km on the clock, cost me £1250 last year. Came with a thick wad of paperwork, info, receipts, etc. etc.

Now, if I had £1250 and the chance to buy the bike all over again, I would. I came to love that bike and it was great for my needs - light to moderate green laning with some quarry razzing. It was tractable yet with more power available than I could use, when the opportunity for making a bit of progress came up, or if I wanted to cane it up a massive steep mound in the quarry. It had decent road manners, a comparatively comfy seat, lights, mirrors and ace suspension.

I have no idea what bike can replace my CRM. I think I want to stick with the 2t 250 class, but am open to any advice and suggestions. Thanks guys.

Yeah my mate rides a Pampera - and I've had a go. Good bike but not really up there with the crm, imo. Nice to have the luxuries on the crm even if they make it heavier - idiot lights, speedo, etc. etc.

The Pampera is very basic.

Pampera is a glorified trial bike. You want an EC or the less competition version they bought out for a few years - can't remember the name.............

200s are good. 125s are very nimble. 250s are a bit much if you aren't used to that kind of power. Choose one with Ohlins shock over one without.

Hobby, ? That was the more trail bike version of the EC. They all had a tunable power valve from memory.

Wow, now were talking. Oil injection, leccy boot, cooling fan already built in, decent suspenders, I wonder what the road manners will be like, normally that's the downside of any of these enduro based road legal machines, anything over 15 miles becomes a serious chore. Though the @?*ing saddle looks likes it's been carved from a lump of solid titanium, so 15 miles might be enough. Will be even more interesting if they have retained the tunable power valve.
£5500  I'm getting old

Reading about that on various forums it appears that it's been mapped to give a very smooth linear power delivery. So it could be the nearest thing to a modern day CRM.

A fair bit of info about it here.

I believe the power valve is altered with an allen key just below the water pump, unless I'm wrong again
How fuel does the tank hold?

Yes power valve is adjustable under the water pump "xtended power valve body, more torque".
Fuel tank is tiny "500ml oil tank under seat, 8,5 litre fuel tank".
