Oversize front disc

Post by Dower » 10 May 2015, 10:43

I've been riding this for a few weeks now and I've decided the front brake isn't powerful enough. This may be because I'm used to a large twin disc setup on my ZXR. I've looked on eBay and found some oversize front discs and mounting brackets. Does anyone have any experience of this mod and do I need to be aware of anything. I'm thinking the original calliper and pads will work. Thank you

What are you using your bike for? Road, off-road, supermoto?

I have a MK3 which is mostly used for green laning, so does get some tarmac use. I find the brakes fine, especially with off road biased tyres. I also ride sports bike's. Have you fought about a brake overhaul?

Can you post a link to the set up you have seen?

Thanks Xstian. The guy I bought it off said he'd done the pads but I t's still running the standard type brake lines. I will use it mainly for road use. I would imagine that little disc is doing quite well considering speed etc. This is the kind of thing I'm looking at: http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/171444130408?nav=SEARCH or this which may go for a lot less but not sure if it would fit http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/191572903782?nav=SEARCH. Thanks

Upgrade the hose to a braided stainless steel one and that will made the brakes a lot stronger and give more feel. You can upgrade the master cylinder to a more modern CR or other MX. I put a CR system on mine with a braided hose and I could stick it on its nose with only two fingers.

Thanks. I'll give that a try for starters. Where would the best place to be to buy the hoses? Do you have one on the rear or do you not use it. I tend not to use it much.

There are plenty on ebay listed for a CRM, I would go for one of them rather than risk an XR one not fitting.

I'm not sure if braided hoses make any noticeable over new standard hoses, but I would imagine a braided hose will be cheaper than a Honda one so you may as well go for it.

Mine is standard except for a braided hose. I change the fluid every couple of years and it works a treat.

Front braided hose will make a big difference.

It will certainly feel better than a rubber hose that is at least 20 years old.

Been a bit busy so not had chance to do this. Will a hose advertised for a 1996-1998 fit my MK2? There doesn't seem to be any MK2 ones advertised. Thank you
