Frame paint worn by boots!

Post by capt » 19 Jun 2010, 18:30

Hello,

I have seen carbon and chrome frame protectors on CRM 250 that seem to fit to the lower part of the frame wear boots rub.

My bike would look much better with these as the wear does not look to good!

does anybody know where I can get these?

Cheers

Kirk

You'll find they're stainless steel rather than chrome. not sure about carbon fibre, but Leisure Trail certainly did the stainless ones, not sure if they still stock them. Some people make their own, depends how handy you are!! Other than that maybe Rinkya, unless similar ones from other bikes fit?

You can get some CR stuff but they need cutting and trimming and sort of fit OK

Haven't tried this on the CRM yet, but if you zoom in you will see that a used a piece of clear hose slit along it's length and then held on with cable ties. It helped a lot, and being clear wasn't too ugly/noticeable.

Sorry for the late reaction.
Only place you could have seen it is on the Isle of Wight 2 or 3 years ago. Purchased new by my son in 1979 and never raced by him. Everything is original except the plastics and the rear tyre, oh, and crankcase seals. (Kept the original plastics).

Now back in storage 8-)

Cheap solution from Russian Yamaha TTR owners. The idea is to use plastic bottle (from engine oil or coolant, etc.), cut it to a size, heat and fix to frame using bolts or plastic clamps:

Thanks for that, that looks quite cunning, I feel a hunt for the heat gun at home going on

I paint out the rubs on the frame with enamel bath touch up paint, it is made to be applied to bare metal - works well. BB.

:D I'm using that silver "trace" tape they now insist on plastic pipes having when they are embedded in walls.
It's very malleable, but resists boot rubbing very well.
