Vacuum and thottle sensor

Post by SkidMark » 26 Mar 2008, 16:54

Can someone explain the vacuum system on an AR and also where is the throttle sensor and what does it look like. I believe it is a pot but the manual is kind of vague on its exact location - is it hidden behind something?

Cheers

Mark

:? er vacuum valve on top of carb, above choke lever.TPS is on the other side of the carb and obscured by the opaque 2 t oil reservoir. .very difficult to see.
Do you really need to disturb either of these items?
Of to TRF meeting now so will catch up later

Well, they were two seperate q's really. The vacuum one out of curiosity - no plans to mess with just wondered what it did and how it worked.
But regarding the Throttle Sensor - I would like to test this if possible as a stage to fault finding my PV problem. My thinking is that of all the sensors that have input into the CDI's control of the PV then this would be the one that could cause it to stop working altogether.
Any wisdom?
Cheers

:( O/K bit foggy on this one myself but from memory on cars the vacuum controlled the advance /retard of the engine for starting/ low speed /high speed running and was adjustable via a vernier wheel beneath the distributor . Whilst the A/R s isn't adjustable i wonder if it performs the same function, if not then sorry im,e stumped as well !! perhaps MR Google could shed some light on to it .

The AR is a scarily complicated bit of kit in some ways, as it relies on Clever Stuff rather than the spark plug for ignition in some parts of the speed/load curve. Accurate control of the in-cylinder pressure is an important part of this.
