Let there be light!
Let there be light!
Ive got a mk2 and I plan on indulging in a spot of night-time riding. trouble is a candle would be brighter than the headlight, even when it blew out from moving along! I want to be able to see where I'm going without having to fit anything too big/bulky or install a battery. Any ideas?
Re: Let there be light!
have you tried using the search facility? - I think some folks have fitted a headlight from an AR which is an improvement, should be a post about it. Otherwise you can get aftermarket setups like UFO etc but I couldn't recommend from experience. Also theres higher wattage bulbs, halogen bulbs etc...
AR's rock!!!

Re: Let there be light!
Hi xander,
Ive fitted an aftermarket UFO 'Ghibli' unit to my Mk 2. Its a bit more money, but they do a glass lensed unit that accepts a common double filament bulb which allows for dip and main beam. These bulbs are available in lots of wattage ranges, but Ive not been able to definitely confirm the rating of a CRM's lighting coil, so Im not risking much above 50w as a main beam (and using LED tail light to reduce the load as well.)
If you want sooper dooper lights, then look round Ebay for HID units.(High Intensity Discharge). Its not cheap, coz you need a special high voltage transformer (23,000 volts!) to energise the gas in the special bulb, but for a low power demand of about 35w you get amazing lights!
If you had the glass headlight, you can match the bulb type up (H4, H7, etc) to an HID system. Last time I looked, they were about £70-£140.
Regards KK

OHH thanks KMK1!
There you go xander..fit a glass lensed headlight unit and a 70w bulb and that will definitely help. Bear in mind that a plastic lensed unit will melt with much more than a 35w bulb in it....
