Do try the pilot jet change.
I'm trying to make contact with a local mechanic who comes highly recomended from another forum.
If he can't fit me in anytime very soon then I'll give it a go, but as I said in my previous post I feel that it would have showed up before. No harm in trying though, cheers Mike

Have you checked the carb diaphragm? maybe ripped or blocked.

On the AR carb there is a brass flying saucer looking thing that should move the linkage if you blow or suck down where there the pipe attatches to it on top.

It's a Mk1 Scrubs, cheers though.
Although maybe it should be redesignated a Mk 0.5 until the wee bugger starts to behave itself.

Sorry, was unsure of what the other MK's carbs looked like. Definitely a pain in the arse and can sympathise -
still need to test mine for leaks. Any ideas what else I could use to block off the inlet manifold - don't have access to a mill to make anything
and trying to make a little leak down tester like you did - I don't wanna risk having another seizure.

Scrubs
your welcome to borrow mine mate. I think I owe something back to this forum for all the advise I've had.
The leakdown tester I bought from the states, but you need a compressor to use it, only up to about 10psi max though. You might be able to rig something up from an inflated tyre if you don't have one. The blanking plate for the exhaust and the inlet stub bung I knocked up and you can borrow those as well.
Let me know if you want them.
cheers

That would be great! thanks very much mate - Lifesaver!

I'll sort you out some money for lending me it and obviously take care of the postage costs both ways.
I Really aperciate it Thanks. I'll invest in a small compressor If I can't manage it with tyres.

I'll PM you my contact details!

:? Now, I have just recalled, the MK1 we owned, [Chronyxes ] actually, he kept complaining about the revs not dropping off in-between gear changes, never got the run away revs, just a reluctance to settle in to a rhythmic tick over once warm.
From memory, we upped the pilot jet size, and as he didn't mention it again I assumed that cured it.
Go with KNMK1s advice, and bang a larger pilot in their, worst case it'll foul a plug.
It may be related to the re-bore, swept volume etc.

Mike
I'm gonna try the bigger jet, I'll call LT in the morning.
BTW, mine didn't have a rebore when I put the engine back together, although it's been upped to +1.5 when I got it, maybe that's what your refering to though? and the runaway revs have stopped now. I think I maybe improved the air leak so it doesn't do that anymore, just doesn't die down to a tickover speed.

Sorry to add to your woes - but I'd also suggest flushing the gearbox out a couple of times if you've dumped some "R" in there on top of mineral oil - the R is a castor based oil and the two don't mix and they can result in the whole lot turning to jelly or worse still - a stiff rubber when they get hot !!

A wee bit cheeky this I know BUT; can anyone loan me a complete carb please?
It'll be returned within 24 hours of receiving it and return postage paid of course.
I'll leave a sizeable paypal deposit.
Thanks
Millard

I've been very kindly offered the loan of Scrub's carb from his AR. Anyone know if it'll work on my Mk1?
cheers

I had a spare carb but sold it on. If I had known how useful it would have been (for many) ....................................
