First muddy ride
First muddy ride
first dirty ride out today on my MK2/2, now i can see what all the talk is about.
nothing to dangerous, kept it nice and simple. did a couple of short green lanes locally.
questions arising from trip.
indicators ok at idle and speed up to practically fully on as engine revs rise. i straight away became worried that the rectifier/regulator may be up the wall. but before i go out and shoot myself does anyone know the way to test it with a multimeter. i know that the rear indicators are after market and have 12v/35w bulbs in them. the fronts i believe are origanal and have 12v/15w bulbs in. i tried puting the other rear 35w bulb in the front but it made no difference. the flasher relay has also been changed in the last few weeks when the previous owner had it mot'd. do you have to make sure that it has a special rating. if so what are the specs. also noticed than when the indicators are on the dash bulbs flash and so does the head light don't know if a bad earth may be causeing it. the dip beam light seems not to be working but the main beam seems ok.
checked gear box oiol level when i got back and needed about 200mls to get it to come out of the level plug hole. previous owner said that he had changed the oil the day before i bought it but i didn't check it, slap my wrist,
apears to be a slight oil leak from kick starter seal and gear box output shaft seal, what are they like to change. i think i read somewhere here that there is a seal behind one of the covers. may check this out as well.
any ideas on any of the above, esspecialy on how to check the reg/rec would be greatly appriciated.
many thanks Ian.

who put that tree there. Is Persil or Daz the best at getting these stains out.
Ian forget the seal behind the clutch cover, you will gain fluid, not lose it if this seal has moved.
i think kickstart and gear lever seals are fairly easy in that you can do then from the outside. also look at primary drive shaft, mine got a load of fishing line wrapped around it and knackered it, losing a lot of oil.
probably best to sit the bike on some clean cardboard and just see where it leaks from.
