AR won,t start

Post by CR Mmmmm » 14 Apr 2010, 17:34

This morning I kicked the AR, she fired up for about a second then died. Removed the plug, no spark. My brother is coming to check it out electrically, but does anyone have an idea what it could be. Thanks.

:( Kev, I would expect it got a dose of the sulks, after all, you've been GXing, all Winter, and now the Suns put in an appearance, you rock up and it expect it to just go  , Oh, no, it's pay back for you Matey, From memory, the ARs have an in line blade fuse, behind the headlamp, that's an easy check, other than that, it's a item by item check, put a new plug in the cap though, just in case.

Hi Mike, I,ve been using it all the time, she has,nt been ignored as I love her so much. Checked the one fuse, it should be 5 amp but it,s fitted with 10 amp. I had a feeling we would have to do a check from the generator up, but I thought someone would say, ah that happened to me. How is Lavender Lil, I hope she,s well. I see there is talk of a ride out in June, I,m deffo up for it. The VFR is being used at weekends, but I still love the A.R. so much more. Happy New Year mate.

:( It does sound like the whole nine yards need checking then mate
Yea, me and Lill are fine, I am very pleased with the bike, and she's done a quite a bit of work over the Winter since I discovered those Skiing, Gloves at TK maxes, that are wind, and water proof, and also breathable £15, well spent, while I can't say they keep your digits , toasty, they do let you keep some feeling in your fingers.
I have been out looking for some, interesting going for a ride out, and think I have some, challenging, routes, but, Water proofing your bikes will be essential :D
You keeping well? is work still plentiful?

Work is very slow, but we are managing to survive. Just a thought, if you need a companion for Lil in the stable check out 290424151977 on fleabay, or should I say fleecebay.

:D Already have a very tidy MK2, with fully rebuilt motor, this is now being used by youngest Son, who now seems to have been bitten by the Bug.

Hi Alan, The sidestand switch is disconnected, and we have fitted a new plug, still no spark. Kicking the bike over by hand produces 6-7volts from the generator, and 0.2 volts from the coil, does that seem to be about right. We have tested the kill switch and that is O.K. Our next test is to see what is coming out of the yellow/black wire coming from the C.D.I. Keep your ideas coming and thanks for your help.

Hi Skidmark, I bought one from Electrex less than a year ago, I expected it to last a little longer than that.

Oh yeah thats right you did - I'd forgotten that. Well that really stinks, sorry mate. I guess mine is due to die anytime soon

Well if it only lasted a year then I would go back to them for sure but I'm afraid that I don't hold out much hope for any help from them. I have no idea what kind of warranty it might have...

Hi Mark, I E-mailed Electrex and they came back to me. If I post it, they will test it and see what they can do. The rectifier is guaranteed for 1 year, I bought it on the 6/4/09, it packed up on the 11/4/10. How unlucky is that. I just hope they don,t tell me they want another 84 quid. Glass half full and all that. ;)

Well thats a good sign at least that they even replied!!! When I complained that the unit was too big to fit and had the wrong connectors (despite them advertising it on their website for all CRM250's) I got no help at all.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Regards
