MK1 CRM and XR 250 fork lengths

I've recently fitted MK1 CRM forks to my MK2 CRM but as the steerer tube on the MK2 is longer than the MK1 now that I've fitted the forks the front end is now lower than it was originally. I've read that Honda XR 250 forks are a much better fork than MK1 CRM forks and also a straight swap.

What I'm wondering is if anybody knows whether the XR forks are longer or the same length as the MK1 CRM forks as if they are longer it would definitely be worth upgrading to make it higher at the front and also perform better. If not then I'll continue with the MK1 forks for the moment.

Any help would be appreciated.

I didn't thing the mk1 and mk2 forks where interchangeable without changing the triple clamps.

Do the mk1 and mk2 share the same frame?

You are correct Christian. The headstock is shorter on the Mk1 so you have to swap posts.

Thanks but I couldn't spot anything about the fork lengths unless I'm being blind haha.

Yeah that's right, I've swapped the whole lot. Forks, triple clamps, fitted the MK2 headstock tube into the MK1 yokes, changed wheel bearings, bearing distance collar, Speedo drive and spindle. A fair bit of work to be honest but the MK2 forks were beyond repair.

Because the headstock tube is longer on the MK2 the MK1 forks have had to be slid further along to reach the top yoke which has lowered the front end around 30mm. What I'm hoping to find out is if someone with a mk1 has done the XR 250 fork upgrade and it's either lifted the front end or if it's stayed the same as before.

If this is your way of saying that the forks are the same length and you can confirm this then why couldn't you just answer my question rather than sending a link to a thread that doesn't confirm fork lengths?

I'm sorry that I've irritated you. But they are a direct repleacement which 'in my' mind means that they are EXACTLY the same in every external measurement.

I forget that those asking questions often require an large element of reassurance because they don't want to be led down the garden path by those who don't know their arse from their elbow. (Which is depressingly common on FaceBook and other sites). Rest assured that 41mm XR250R forks (the later the better) are by far the best replacement for MK1 CRM250 forks and are in fact much better that the other Mk originals and generally better than the best USD forks that can be fitted to later Mks.
