You shouldn't have any up/down play on the crank or the balance shaft.

+1 As Knackered says no movement the needle bearings £26 from LT and as i posted earlier its possible to repair the bearing surface as i have plus the cost of the clutch cover gasket and while your in there take a look at your water pump cost me £60 for the new mechanical seal.

So the mk3 passed her ticket yesterday she was a scrapper in Nov now shes mechanically perfect and rather than going for bits another CRM on the streets with tons of life and all under £900 with peace of mind :)
