Noobish CRM coolant questions

Post by Sean91 » 26 Feb 2016, 19:38

Forgive me if these sound a bit dumb but i have a few oil/coolant realted q's

-theres a coolant bottle next to the radiator, if the coolant goes in the radiator then What is this for? And what do i put in it because mine are nearly empty?

-is radiator coolant radiator coolant? Or is there anything more specific id need to use?

-what engine oil does the CRM need? Im guessing 10w40? Does it need a 2stroke specific engine oil or would a 4stroke 10w40 oil be okay?

Cheers!

The small bottle is the expansion vessel, excess water from expansion when the engine is hot gets vented into the bottle, then drawn back in as the rad cools. If in doubt about the coolant, drain and flush with clean water then replenish with your chosen brand, then stick to that.
A good quality 10w 40 in the gearbox is fine, though many of us run with ATF fluid, again changed quite frequently.

Ahh okay thanks for that. I can get 10w40 silkoline oil fairly cheap but its intended for 4 stroke engines. Will it still be suitable?

As long as it's suitable for wet clutches [the clutch plates sit in the oil bath] any additives that are said to coat the metal with a PTFE type coating will make the clutch slip.

which bike? you say bottle next to rad. on the AR this is the 2 stroke oil bottle not the expansion bottle.
I dont know about the other mk's though. the expansion bottle is under the rear left panel.
It says oil on the lid. do not fill with coolant unless you want to kill the engine.

Good point. When I had an AR, I made an expansion vessel out of a robust plastic bottle, which I mounted in front of the rad.
