Cylinder compatability ?

Post by davecee92 » 15 Apr 2016, 19:51

Hi does anyone know if cylinders for a mk 1 would work on on a mk 2 ? Ive bought a cylinder thinking it was for a mk 2 but there are slight differences like the mk 2 has an allen bolt at the r/h next to the exhaust port but new onne doesnt , the mk 2 also has a hole probably about 1cm on the lower part of the cylinder on the intake side ? Other than that they are identical .Someone please help so i know if i should just sell the new cylinder on , thanks

Mk1, 2 & 3 are interchangeable but the Mk1 cylinder will give slightly less power and a more 'revvy' delivery.

Do you know what the hole in the lower end of the mk 2 cylinder is for ? And im guessing i will barely even notice the power loss ?

The hole in the liner is of virtually no importance. The position of the power valve makes the difference, though with some judicious grinding you can improve that substantially.

Will the power difference between the 2 cylinders really be that noticeable overall ? And just remove material from it to allow more exhaust gasses to flow ? Thanks again

I don't think you will notice much difference.
