Carb breather pipes

Well one of my mates has persuaded me to do the Hafren rally, so yesterday I decided to give the bike a once over and list the things I want to do to it before doing the rally. One thing I spotted wa that the fuel line to the carb needs replacing, (the cotton braiding is going so the rubber pipe may well be going as well.....not much of a problem. But the breather pipes raised a question for me. The one on the left side of the carb goes to a T piece, one part of which vents down by the suspension. The other side of the T piece goes up and over the carb as though it will attach somewhere else - but again just vents to atmosphere somewhere above the carb on the rhs of the bike! is this correct ? seems a bit pointless having two vents for the one carb outlet ? Bike is a Mk2 btw.

Hi Ed

Imagine that you are sat in deep water and your breather is hanging down in the water, should there be any reason to suck back in through the breather then it will draw air down from the high inlet instead of sucking up water from the lower one, simple but effective works on crankcase breathers aswell.
