Finally found out the cause for the lock up.
Noticed that the crank would lock slightly at a certain position when turned by hand so stripped the whole thing down.
About a third of the alternator side main bearing cage was missing! Can only assume it broke off and was lying dormant at the bottom of the crankcase till the bike did a 180 and gravity did the rest and sucked it into the engine.
Crankcase is a right mess but it ran fine afterwards so not too worried there. https://imgur.com/a/bm5SOE3
can't get a piston anywhere tho unless i go for a re-plate so watch out you lot if you have a AR.
