Theres so much talk about cdi's blowing and the expense of replacing it ,, and then theres the restrictor in the cdi that hold the revvs back thus slowing the bike down,,Well , Has anybody done a \"points\" conversion.thus doing away with the cdi alltogether.Is it possible??

when most people (well me anyway) talk of CDI going, its usually the bit that controls the powervalve that gives in, the rest seems ok so no point, (pun intended) fitting points.

I heard in one post spark was lost cos the cdi busted ...I also heard on some early mk1s there were no cdi , The powervalve was controlled manually with split cables and levers via the throttle cable,??

I thought someone was looking at developing an on line fuse device to fit between reg/rec & cdi unit. Has this progressed?

Yes , its ongoing ,, I dont want to sugest a product that dosnt work or causes the fault it supose to protect..Thre are three avenues im looking into ..
1/-.secondary regulator?
2/.manual fuse or overload breaker
3/.electronic power monitoring device?.
ive also wondered if just powering the cdi with a battery and using the alternator soaly to charge would suffice ,, ?

i also read somewhere that the CDI takes a high voltage from the coil on the engine to feed the Capaciter in the CDI unit....there ain't no alternator.

I've got a solution to this problem all sorted, it's being fitted to my bike this weekend and then I'll be looking to sell them for a modest fee, as an easy fit unit to all CRM owners who like me, feel ther CDI could go pop any minute!!

No, I'll charge for selling them ready made but if anyone wants to make their own then I'll see if I can get Paul to put up the wiring diagram for it on the site.

Then you can buy the components yourself and make your own one for free!!
