carb probs mk1

Post by jrvkv6 » 18 Jul 2005, 11:16

I just bought this bike and when i got it it ran fine but fuel alway trickled out of the bowl overflow, so when i got it home i adjusted the float level down a little but now it floods the engine.

i managed to adjust it so it would run without fuel coming out of the overflow, it was hard to start cos it was flooding but it eventually did and now when i start it it revs hard

anyone know what would cause this? ? ?

Any ideas anyone???

jrv,

Welcome to the forum.

The first thing that I would do is to establish whether the float height is actually correct as opposed to adjusting it until it stops coming out of the overflow. Once you know for certain that the float height is correct then its time to start looking elsewhere - its possible that the floats themselves have a slight puncture and are filling with fuel - if this is the case then you will never get your bike running properly no matter what float level you set it to.

If the bike was running properly and now it doesn't then something must have changed when you put it back together.

So, start with the float height, check whether the floats are letting in fuel or not and reassemble using a new gasket whilst checking that all the carb settings are correct.

Let me know how you get - any problems then please PM me - ill behappy to help you.
