clear pipe mounted on the side of the headstock, does this measure total oil in tank? mine took 200ml to fill from empty or is that how small the 2stroke oil tank is?

thanks!

Crasher. The pipe gives you a level at the top of the tank. Actually there is no tank, as the oil is in the frame. At the base of the frame rail under the petrol tank there is a rubber bung with some wires coming out. That is the 2-stroke oil level switch. So that when the oil level is low, a red warning light will come on, on the top of the speedo. So then you can see that the actual amount of oil in the frame, is from the filler hole down to the warning switch. Which is quite a lot of oil. :)

Tested my oil level led worked with the sm wheels did a rolling stoppie from about 50 mph and there it was bright as any thing
You can always let it run down a bit then winch the back of the bike in the air to let all the oil run forward and then take out the level sensor and check it

Im still paraniod when going out laning and always carry oil with me and top up when the refuelling.

Does anyone know on average how many tanks of fuel you can use without needing to top up the oil ?

cheers Steve

dont worry about it............plenty of oil in them there frames.

you can check oil switch works by removing tank/seat and pull out indicator, then start bike (should be enough fuel in carb).

There is stacks of oil in the frame even when the level swtich starts to indicate you are low on oil. I would think you have at least 300ml left in the frame and piping at this stage. (conservative estimate). Enough oil for at least two or three tankfulls of petrol if it is running a very strong petrol to oil ratio. Longer if ~40/1, as I suspect is about right.

I think i get around 1mm oil per km riding(commuting) so thats aprox 1000k's for a tank of oil, so definetly plenty of oil in frame for alot of riding without having to worry about topping up all the time
